I have a few dead/dying batteries around, and have found vids on YouTube of people rescuing batteries, using Epsom salts. Has anyone tried this? And if so how well did it work

Tried it and it works BUT when the battery did eevntualy die it died very suddenly and went from perfectly OK to dead as a doormouse in no time, i found i got from 3 months to a year more when i did it, now i use a battery desufater charger (bowt £40) to clean the plates and thats does just as well but is slower (needs to be on the charger for a good few days) but they seem to last longer.

Thanks for the reply. Did you just tip salts in or make up a solution? Did you try re treating the batteries after they died again? Google brings up lots of hits giving all sorts of conflicting advice

I'm building one of those desulphators at the moment from a kit I bought about 5 years ago, sadly got a fair few duff batteries to test it out on so I should soon know if its snake oil or not, if anybody is interested I've got the schematics and it looks like it would be easy to knock up on a breadboard. I've been told EDTA works better than epsom salts - its easy enough to get hold of as well. |
