After wafting around in this for the last 6 months and putting 6000 miles on the clock (which is quite a long time for me ) I've decided that its time to get a car my wife also wants to drive I've decided to put this up for sale and hunt out a new beetle to take on my daily duties.
Mechanicals:
Its got the 130bhp 2.0 16v 4pot engine, which considering its size and the autobox actually goes quite well. The initial take off wont scare too many GTi's, but once its rolling quite rapid progress can be made and it'll happily sit on the motorway with plenty in reserve when you want to overtake. And over the 6k I've had I've average 32 MPG on mixed A roads/M ways and Bristol traffic. The oil pressure is always at the top of the gauge and the temp gauge sits nice and steady at middle of the gauge even in Bristol traffic on a rare hot day. The auto box shifts and the cruise control work as they should, ts got good tyres on the original spec alloys (still have the C class alloys it came on) and has a full size steel spare with a good tyre too.
Inside you've got electric sunroof/windows and mirrors plus its got full leather and cruise control (rare on the 200/220's) and it really is a nice place to be and has the rear head rests that flip down at the touch of a button
Bodywork
For a W124 it is a very good shell. It spent a good few years out in Spain which I think has done it the world of good. Both front wings are starting to go at the front of the arch, there's a weird patch of rust behind the number plate on the bootlid (which also has a dent in the top of it, pics below) and around the radio aerial on the rear wing, and there's a localised area of bubbling on the NS A-post by the screen around a hefty stonechip. Other than that the floors/sills are all good and inside the jacking points is solid too.
There is also a crack in the rear bumper, but overall it looks a very tidy car.
As with older cars, it does have a couple of negatives. The rust as mentioned, the interior fan doesn't work and it only has 1 key. It also wont have a head unit fitted.
Price is £600, not really looking for a PX but would consider something cheap with a few months tax/test
So there you have it, a cracking barge for eating up the miles in, or lose a couple of coils and add some bigger rims and build your self something like this
