Y'all are confusing rarity with value. Yes, more-door 1.3L models are rarer, but RS2000's are more sought after and therefor valuable. Look at the Talbot Tagora or the Austin Princess or the mkI Mondeo or any one of hundreds of forgotten basic cars. Yes, they are popular here, and yes they are very rare, but they are also still pretty much worthless despite their rarity. But surely this is what the thread is about? Rare/retro? I don't see anything mentioned in the OP about valuable or super desirable? Just cars that are becoming rare. Unless I'm completely getting the wrong end of the stick, it's you that's confusing things? The four I'd most like to own that are also becoming increasingly rare (yet are still super cheap when they do come up for sale): Mk1 Mondeo (estate please), Daewoo Espero, Mk1 Espace (kinda wish I'd bought the one on eBay the other month for £400) and the early Toyota ModelF SpaceCruiser. ^^All now very rare and all still worthless, yet all super high on the want list for me^^

Investing in cars is generally a bad financial move Rubbish. Putting your money in cars is a far better investment than banks will offer. Just buy the right car now and sit on it for a few years. Ahem 2.8 capri's

Y'all are confusing rarity with value. I think you are the only one who is confused...as you are the only person who has mentioned value?

Rarities - anything that in popular with banger racers, so Bluebirds and old Volvo estates. Expect the few cars that are left to be bought up and sent around the oval.

The Impreza yes, an Evo 6 will be one to watch as there are examples under 5k now. I remember when the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth was just dipping in the 2.5k bracket now look at them. I remember them (Cosworths) being sub £500 through the auctions when the only people who could run them were on a traders policy - same with all the XR's too they were pretty much worthless, I bought 2 XR3i's (nice straightish cars for £60 for the pair a few years after that when they were still a curse word to insure) Personally I think Viva's & Marina's MG Montego's & Maestros Vauxhall Calibra's Scooby's (in non messed with format) Any sporting variant of a base model for the right price in the right condition. Late 80's early 90's commercials - look at the way prices are going for a straight relatively rot free Mk3 Transit (ok thats a bit of an oxymoron but you get the drift) or MK3/4 Escort van Are all pretty much of a sound investment - if and only if you have free & dry storage

I keep seeing a Proton Wira or whatever they are called and always think they have potential.
My brother used to work for daewoo and always had the latest models on loan. You can pick a fully loaded Leganza for the price of a Mcflurry now
Also the original Twingos are always an eye catcher for me

i completely agree with whoever it was that mentioned the saxo vts, ok it may not be retro just yet, but if you could get an early, totally standard one with low miles, it would be worth mothballing i think.
most of them have been thrashed into the ground now, or modified to death.
its an iconic car of that period and I'm sure in (probably quite a long) time it will be really quite valuable (think mk1 cooper S)

x3 on the saxo VTS, I used to have one, mine was a phase 2 though, it was a wicked car it was low miles and owned by my GF's mum. I want to get another but cant find one in the same condition. Like many others it was stripped down and turned into a track car after i sold it

I doubt that about the Saxo as the 106 was always the more sought after, reason people went for the Saxo was it was cheaper and had free insurance.
IF its lucky it may one day share a level nearly as high as the 205, but I'd think it will end up more like the AX GT or Visa GTI. The 106 Rallye S1 and S2 are 2 to watch.
I stand by the Lancer Evo 6 being the one to have, it like the Escort carries massive nostalgic value a car you could buy straight from the rally stages and the car that put Mitsubishi on the map, and lets face it people will always pick the Evo over the Impreza like people pick the Escort over Chevette.
IMO the scene will shift to AWD/RWD cars and they will become the sought after things expect BMW's to gain value very quick once all the curse word ones have been drifted to death.

i know what you mean mate, i think the 106 was the better car, but becasue the saxo is the one that has been abused and scrapped so much there will be less of them in the end.
i think compareing the saxo to an ax gt is a little unfair though, they were ugly, slow, and mostly made of plastic, the saxo is a much better car imo.
I'm saying all this, i have never had a saxo, its just where i would invest my money thats all.

Was going to suggest the BMW Z3 M coupe for this as well, as they're not a particularly common sight and are really quite cool in my mind, but it seems I'm too late as the cheapest one I can see is just shy of 10k!

Pretty much any car from the early 80s up to the mid 90s is getting rare, so many cars from my childhood are gone, there are simply too many cars to list!
