Panels after the thrid stage of polishing. I really need to invest in a decent camera as photos don't do the paint finish justice. Starting the rebuild process Dropped the suspension for painting Dropped the tyres off the bead to refurbish the wheels as the new paint showed the wheels up a bit! Inside and out Pre-Polishing Suspension going back on Refurbished wheels and nuts, just need to dress the tyres once the car is done and everything will look shiny and new! Brand new windcreen gone in as old one had a crack and the usal delamination around the edges All but the very final finish is done now polishing wise. Photos don't do the finish justice, but the paintwork is like glass. Just going to re-paint the rear bumper and wing mirrors as not entirely happy with the finish, but the rest gets the seal of approval! Taking shape now

Mechanical-wise, like stated previously, it was excellent and came with a sack full of history, but I have treated it to a full and thorough service. Only thing it needs is a fuel pump to filter pipe/hose as the ends are a bit shot (it is the original), so I've not yet been able to fit the new fuel filter.
Once the rear bumper and mirror is repainted it just needs the brake calipers painting, the pipe and filter mentioned above, the rest of re-assembly and then the interior retrim.
The seats are in decent condition for the age, but there's one small area on two of the vinyl/leatherette panels of the drivers bolster which have a little wear, so I bought new vinyl to replace those. The new vinyl, however, shows up the fade in colour over the years, so decided that all the vinyl needed changing. Then the fabric on the passenger's seat had one small split was repaired badly. I was going to re-stitch this to look neater, but in some areas the fabric looks sunbleached from years of exposure to rays and I found the original material on sale in Germany, so the whole thing snowballed and I decided one tiny repair had to turn into a full retrim given the standard of finish on the exterior of the car.
I've also bought new number plates, new rear decals and also the original 924S larger side decals which were missing from the car when I got it.

That does look lovely. The finished project should be superb! I really am liking 924s now. The 924S Le Mans has been a motor I have fancied trying out some time .

The S is a great, underrated car. Looks well, sounds well, goes pretty well. Handles superbly. Great suspension and brakes.

That is going to look brand new once finished! How come you didn't remove the wheels weights before re-finishing the wheels? Or will you just re-do them again when the tyres next require changing?

The likelihood is they'll get changed within the next year and with the design of the wheel they're not at all visible from the front. Just wanted to freshen the back of the wheel up as well as the front.

The re-build is coming along nicely now Picture of the other side didn't come out at all, but the 924S Decal on the other side is now on. Gave the doors and all mechanicsms a good strip, clean, grease and rebuild, so everything is operating nicely. Everything still feels really nice, solid and well-built. The doors shut with a satisfying tone. Still rebuilding the window mechanisms, so hopefully they'll work just as well as previously the passenger window was a little slow and sticky.

The rubbing strips are freshly painted and ready for refitting!
Not doing any modifications to the original aesthetics. Taking this car back to 1986!

That really looks amazing. Well done on a thorough refresh, always fancied one of these or a 944. Maybe one day!
