Blame Baloo for this one.. Cleaning up an old razor thread
I recently invested in an electroplating set up for something else I do and always looking for something else to try it out on I scored three manky old Gillette DE razors on Ebay. The pictures don't do them justice, they were worse than they look. Anyway, I believe these are all Gillette 'Tech' patterns from around the 1940's.
First up is my favourite, it is all brass and has a really nice weight to it. On arrival it was scabby with knackered plating and in need of a good clean.
After stripping it went in the ultrasonic cleaner for a few baths.
Followed by a clean with a nylon brush in the dremel and a smoothing of the top plate with 2500 wet 'n' dry.
The razor was then silver plated, this may not be the final finish as I believe original for these is either nickel or gold plating, though I could also plate with chrome or black chrome.
Finished.. for now.
