I have an OM602 that I'm putting in a project. It was going to be automatic but now I have the option of making it manual. Which gearboxes will bolt straight on with minimal fuss? Will gearboxes from an E class with an OM605 bolt straight on? Sprinters? (even later 6 speed boxes?)
Thanks for any info

I bought my first OM605 from a C250td and that had a manual box. The Sprinter gearboxes on Ebay appear to have the same bellhousing pattern as the earlier OM60x series of engines. I think the later saloon cdi engines also shared the same bellhousing pattern going by the Ebay pics.

Thanks, I've looked at a few manual boxes on ebay and many seem to have the same bell house pattern. I've not seen gear linkages like these before though: I'm trying to find pictures of the gearstick end of the arrangement

To be honest the rods confuse me too, I ended up cutting off the first 2" of the bellhousing flange and welded it onto a Land Rover bellhousing, that now sits quite happily in my Land Rover and seems to work well. An alternative I've just stumbled on would be a T5 gearbox, and the bellhousing from a Ssangyong Musso... The Ssangyong T5 has a different tail housing from normal rwd T5 boxes, and is an alternative that could be used if you can find the bits?

Ahh that's interesting. Is that an LT77 box in your land rover? I have one in my kit car and I extended the gearstick linkage myself so I'm familiar with that already. I had a manual box from a musso but sold it as the plan was to go auto, doh!

Doh indeed! Yes, the Land Rover is LT77, I've put a few photos up of how I stuck it all together in my Land Rover build thread. There are a couple of other options I'm exploring for easier manual gearboxes to use and fit, but not actually made anything yet.

Ahh yes I see, great project! I'm quite a fan of the LT77, easy to change the gearstick position and cheap to buy so I'll bear it in mind when choosing a box

I'm building an adapter to take an OM60x onto the rwd R380 gearbox, I'm sure some people will take great offence in that but it's a decent heavy duty proven gearbox, cheap and I have a small collection of them to destroy!

May I ask, the Ssangyong T5 is a manual 4x4 gearbox with an OM603/606 bell housing? If it is would you mind telling me which side of the gearbox the front drive transfer case is on? Beers, H
