Hi guys, Iknow this has been done over and over but I want to cut the springs on my micra asap but i need to know the process. Will i need any additional parts? From what i have seen on other models its just a case of taking off the desired coils and then fastening the spring to the top mount or lower? Presumably wiyh juiblee clips?
I can get the shocks off easily but its the cutting part. Anybody have any idea how many i should take off to get it low but useable? I am thinking two?
Cheers
Tom

If you want it to handle as it was designed afterwards you will need shortened shocks as well. If your just cutting the springs you will also need to shorten the bump stops. Personally id fit a proper lowering kit to it.

Get a grinder out. What's the worse that can happen. done it to nearly every car I've owned and guess what. Mot man.....happy. nuns and kittens......still alive and I'm not ccurrently sending this message from heaven nor a ditch in Lincolnshire. Do it properly and everything will be okay. Do it like a dickend and well, maybe not so much.

Just make sure you cut the coils from the correct end: K10 springs are pigtailed at one end, and parallel at the other. You want to be chopping the parallel end. Don't you, rtlkyuubi?

Jack car up, turn wheel to full lock, select the most accessibile coil (usually means chopping off 2 at a minimum, but you were gonna do that many at least anyway right? Don't be pussying out doing one, that's as bad as -30mm springs), fire up the grinder with a skinny disk in and start chopping through the spring. Once you've got a decent notch in it hide your face behind the wheel and with an outstretched arm chop through the rest. Wait for the bang. Sweep up remains of cutting disk and fit a new (used is best) disc. Chop the bit of spring you've chopped off into half circle sections to remove. Drop car off jack. Do the other corners same. Jobbed.

I recently cut the springs on my own K10, nothing special to be concerned with the fronts will ideally require a spring compressor to be safe. And as Vilerug said cut the non-pigtail end (although I can't remember if they are actually pig tail on the Mirca). The rear is diabolically easy as the springs aren't even under tension with the rear jacked up.
I removed one coil front and back which gave a modest drop 20mm something like that. Ideally you'll want to wire/cables is the springs into the cups to avoid dislocation.
Just to add to the debate about cut springs....
I've personally owned cars lowered with proper lowering springs, coilovers and cut springs. IMHO they can all be "dangerous" however they can all be "safe" too, the important thing is to take your time, think and learn from experience. Start small if you aren't confident you can always remove more later.

I don't think I've every had a car that Ive not cut the springs on ..
I undo the top nut jack the car up the weight will come off the spring just keep jacking
Then when you cut it shouldn't kick

Both my cars and most of my past ones run cut springs, they're perfectly fine.

Do it properly and everything will be okay. Do it like a dickend and well, maybe not so much. And knowing the difference is a big issue with some.
