Yesterday I had an appointment in the city at 11:45am. SWMBO and the little one are on holiday, so me disappearing for most of the day would not have gone down well. So, we decided to combine my need to be in the city with a visit to the museum - it is close to where I needed to go, has a carpark (an eyewateringly expensive one mind you) and the little one can stare open mouthed at the dinosaurs for hours while I go and do what I need to do. All good. However, upon arrival, I spot a car in the foyer, and was a little surprised. On loan from Toyota, one of only 2 ever made, and made specially for the film it is......... Now, that is pretty special, but not really iconic. This on the other hand was parked downstairs (note the fluid leak) It even had a hole in the roof I now have a ticket for the exhibition in a week and a bits time - I even get to go to the Lego convention in the morning. Result!

That 2000GT is gorgeous rather special, even the hard tops are bloody rare. Although the wires on that one utterly ruin it imo!

Yep, there are almost certainly fewer droptop 2000GTs in the world than DB5s . I think it's proof the Japanese can make genuinely beautiful cars, and it'd be perfect if they'd just stop fiddling with little fussy details. It only loses points cos of all the little chrome doodads glued to its bum. I think it suits the wires, too. The original alloys had a weird knockoff-and-lugnut belt and braces thing going on IIRC

They supposedly made the soft top GT in record time for the film, because after filming began, it became apparent Sean Connery could not fit in the coupe version.

Is this down in Melbourne? If so I went to the exhibition and saw the Aston but the 2000gt wasn't there unfortunately. Not a bad little exhibition though!

I'd heard that too, but according to the sign next to the car it was so they could show the modified interior. The height thing makes sense - I seem to remember that is the reason the Aston has no sunvisors (you can see the mounting holes in Goldfinger). Courseout - yes, Melbourne.

The Aston doesn't make sense. The sunroof ejector seat hatch looks drawn on and I can't see the slot for the rear bullet proof screen?

I think it's the car used in Skyfall, not the original Goldfinger car. That said there are probably dozens of them doing a look-a-likey

I love that Toyota, utterly stunning little car. Might be controversial but I'd have it over the DB5 any day.

That said there are probably dozens of them doing a look-a-likey Did some googling and there is one car owned by the production company. They used it in Goldeneye as BMT214A and then again in Skyfall as BMT216A. Apparently this is it. As for the drawn on roof - could just be the crappy phone pics.

the skyfall aston was in the heritage motor centre until early december and the ejector roof hatch was indeed drawn on. the skyfall aston was another aston done especially for the film....i think octane mag did an article about its purchase and restoration into the bond car.

They had some of the Skyfall DB5s on display at Beaulieu last year; Other than obviously the driving shots, most of the ones in the film were 1/3-scale models. Amazingly good models, mind you

Bet that was a nice find for you on a day out! Going a bit OT but staying with the Bond theme, just saw something from last year saying the famous Bond Walther used in the promotional posters was to be auctioned www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2013/07/14/james-bonds-walther-lp-model-53-auctioned/I thought I knew something about Bond films and guns, but still found 2 *very* big surprises in the article very quickly ( one of them was the expected sale price )
