So I've just picked up a 1978 mk1 Cavalier as my new daily (I will start a thread soon) and before I press it into heavy daily duties I want to give it a full service - but no one can get me the leads! There also don't appear to be any on eBay.. Does anyone know any other cars that had the same leads? I presume 1.6 manta has the same engine? Any info on the engine would be great actually - all I know is it's a 1.6 GL with an auto choke carb and a 4 speed box! Ive just picked up spark plugs, air filter, points, condenser, rotor arm, dizzy cap and oil filter as well as a new thermostat as it doesn't get warm so I'm thinking the stat is seized (hopefully not missing but we shall see). It surprises me I can get that lot no probs but the leads are a mystery to everyone!

If push comes to shove buy a length of HT lead and some ends and make your own.

That's a very good idea, I may have to. Seems odd that you can't just buy them off the shelf, they were such popular cars in the day. Gonna go look on eBay for DIY HT leads!

Leads off any Cavalier mk1 or Manta B with 1.6, 1.9 or 2.0 cih engines should fit

Ems is correct, any Manta/Ascona B leads for a 1.6, 1.9 or 2.0 will be fine. If there's anything else you need to know feel free to drop me a PM. I've had loads of these and still have a mk1 coupe. Oh, and get some pics up!  |

Just get manta plug leads, all the CIH engines are the same leads.
Also if you want to remove the points you can swap to the later GT/e dizzy and ignition pack, i did that on my old mk1 carlton.
The mk1 Cav shares the running gear/engine and a lot of other bits with the Manta so lots of opportunities for part swapping and upgrades

As said should be easy to get leads any opel or vauxhall with a cih has the same leads. Ask your auto factor for a set of leads for a 1992 vauxhall frontera 2.4 there the same.

Cheers fellas, got leads in the end, just waiting on the air filter, points and condenser that annoyingly I can see sat on the desk at the locl motor factors, through the locked door window! Don't know why they're not open, he said he'd be open christmas eve so went down and it was shut, just come back from attempt two and still bloomin shut!

i love my mk1 cavaliers:-) i have two,and a curse word load of spares if you ever need anything.
id highly reccomend getting the accuspark electronic ignition kit for it.
