I know it's been done & now I'm starting to get rather dirty thoughts about a bastid hybrid toyota/Bini blown engine. Has anyone around here ever been involved with such a creation, or am I off my head as usual in even thinking about it? All i'm thinking is-I've got an engine in bits, a charger is relatively cheap, bit of cutting & welding of brackets to make it fit, but what else needs to be done? Lower compression, or is that only if I try & run silly boost?

I personally would do a rough diagram of the engine in situ and see if all the bits and bobs fit first. there are a load of forums, some are quite helpful and they will help you out. Also is your car injected or on carbs, this makes a lot of difference. You also need to think about engine management - this is the only thing stopping me supercharging the alfa.

It's a 1486 cc, there's loads of room for the blower. It's on carbs at the moment (well nothing at the moment as the engine's stripped) found a couple of pics of it done & making me think more & more about it. Just don't know if I have the ability or bank balance to pull it off

The more I look, the more I think it has to be done. There's loads of room to do it, so why not! Was thinknig Cooper S charger, or an s12 mr2 one if i can find one. Don't know what carb to use though. Will probably suck through as that seems easier to me

I don't think you can suck through with the Mini S/C. Not designed for the fuel air mix. Shame as it might seal up the rotors better if wet.
Actually, in terms of carbs n superchargers, do the carbs need to be modified to deal with the extra pressure? Are say S.U.s or Webers better suited to pressure charging?
I was looking at Megasquirt and an m45 myself but it I'm somewhat intimidated about getting a lean condition and holing a piston before I realise.

Well SU's come in a sealed form for the metro turbo so they are fine, Dellortos are supposed to be ok for low boost but id be going for bike carbs if it was my choice!

re. bini blowers no liking suck through: some guys in this country are running suck through bibni blowers on bikes. apparently it only seems to reduce the blowers lifespan. however these guys are doing it for looks and fun, if was for performance it'd be blow through all the way. bike carbs, as slater says, all the way. cheap, boost handling & simple. this is all speculation on my part tho, I have not had any real "dealings" with forced aspiration, just what I've heard.

what would be needed if i used bike carbs? custom(home)made inlet manifold & pipework for the blower etc. what about jetting though as I know less than onthing about bike carbs? Assume I'd need to make some sort of sealed air box for them too? Or what about a single weber, as I have a manifold & carb, make a sealed box for that, or split the charge hose from the charger & blow directly down each trumpet?

Weber carb on a blow though system don't work well as they are difficult to seal, a metro turbo SU or a R5 GTT carb would be better. As for the bike carbs it quite a bit of work but they could easily fuel a blow 1.4 lump, check out Bogg Brothers they are bike carb experts and should be able to help you out www.boggbros.co.uk/index.html
