Picked this up from CtiStu a while back after having a need for an older car. So after selling my Zafira to my sister I was back in the world of retro car ownership with PugWash
Not perfect but happy with him and is great on fuel. It has the 1.3 simca G1a engine with single carb and the be1 gearbox. First port of call was the tapping engine. So out came the feeler gauge and after 30mins of "on the rock" and "rule of nine" we had a lovely quiet engine. Didn't really get any pics as i was to keen to have a play, but found some oil cakey goodness so gave that a good clean up.
So drove around for a month as it was and enjoying being back in a older car until mot time. Spent the grand sum of £60 to get it through the mot only needing;
Track rod ends as the rubber was split
The handbrake was uneven, so whipped of the drums to be greeted by a leaking wheel cylinder. Only a slight weep, but must have been happening for a while as this was the mess it left
The brake pipe union was seized in the cylinder so replaced the short section of metal pipe to the flexy as well, it was looking a bit past its due anyway. The other side has had a new cylinder recently so just required a clean up, fitting of a new wheel bearing and adjustment of the handbrake. The only other items to do where the washers, which blocked up with polish and the O/S/F caliper was sticking on its sliders so nothing major.
So now with a years ticket I decided to begin making it my own. I'm currently out of work so everything at the moment is cheap(free) mods done with parts I already own in the garage. I'm not normally a sticker fan, but had these and decided what the hell, and my little boy loves them to
The passenger side window winder assembly was completely missing so after getting a complete door from Mike on here I set about sorting it out. My 4yo son likes to talk to people out the window and if she's fit who am i to stop him haha. Currently the window was held in place by an old favorite my wood
So expecting a ball ache of a job, I fitted the window assembly and was surprised how easy it was. The worse bit was getting the window glass to sit in the runner with the rubber strip. Had to re use the older rubber as I didn't have a good/new one.
So in no time at all i had fully working keep fit windows Next job was the central locking was a bit hit and miss on the rear doors, but a quick squirt of WD40 and we were back to full health.
So now most of the little jobs are done, next is to the important stuff. Still need a bit of fabrication and new tyres, but these will hopefully be fitted soon along with a ride height drop. The car is still on the jack here and on a step drive with a flat tyre, but you get the idea!
Need to do a bit or reaserch into the best tyres to fit on the 15" 7j rims, but there is always a way. Next jobs lined up are to get the bumpers darker, can't decided between lots of peanut oil to bring the back to life or matt black. The wheels will hopefully be white but i may change my mind.
