Basically. There's a frontera local that I want to get my hands on solely because of the reg number. I can't stand the shape of them. If a body swap is done with a car body. Would I be able to keep the frontera's reg number? Thanks ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

You should always retain the number on a rebody, for the same reason you do not have to pay for the change to the log book. It is a change of body not a new car.

Would it not be easier to just take the reg number off, stick another age related plate back on it and sell it? The your free to put the reg on something you like?

Since the reg is purely an identification method isn't it easier to just leave it where it is and walk away, not one single person in this whole world cares if it slightly spells your name if you use some black screws and pretend a 4 is infact an A etc etc...
But yes if you really must have this rare piece of lettered plastic then what Joe said seems ideal and easy

Thanks for the replys.
No spacing etc needed for this plate. It does have my name on which is why I want it.
I didn't think you could transfer any plate number. I thought it was only private plates.

A private plate is what you made of it, my van's plate ends in VAW, means nothing to me, but lots to a Victor Albert Williams

As long as the registration does not make the vehicle to which you apply it appear newer (or is otherwise non-transferable), just fill in your forms and pay your eighty quid to The Man. Don't forget both vehicles need a current MOT...

I like the thought process going on here. Desirable number plate swapped to another car is easy peasy, but dropping a different body on a Frontera chassis amuses me to no end. Get something interesting and perhaps a bit silly and bolt it down then show us the results.
Or be sensible and do what everyone else is saying.

Never done it so not sure but, if you transfer the reg off the Frontera, don't the DVLA just give you another reg to put on it? i.e. you don't have to buy one for the Frontera, you just end up with one.

...or get onto Deed Poll and bung them a mere £10 and change your name to L123ABC (or whatever your current reg is) for the ultimate personalised plate...

You won't need to buy a plate for the frontera, if you put the frontera plate on a retention certificate the dvla a will automatically assign another plate to the frontera job done.

The plate on the frontera reads R71 WCK. My name is rob wick. Hence why I want it. I plan on doing a body swap and then lifting it a bit ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I will be using a 98 Mazda 323f body. Hopefully once done it will look a bit like this but a 323f not a S13 not so high and no big gay wing. s891.photobucket.com/user/veccyman/library/Mobile%20Uploads

[pessimist] Put the plate on retention BEFORE you try swapping the body.
Why? well if you get it all in bits and 8 months later loose interest or find you cant complete it, then the plate will die with the remains of the Frontera. To go on retention, the car must have a valid MOT, and there is no way to transfer the plate from the Frontera if it is a chassis and pile of bits under a tarp outside your garage.
If you get the job done - cool beans, well done you. You can then swap the plate back when the car is finished and be The Don. However, if you don't get it done, you have the plate on retention so can swap it onto any car you like that is 1998 or younger.
