I've currently got on my drive a 1995 1.8Diesel fiesta on my drive with a snapped cam belt, its done it properly, broken the cam in half and generally made a mess! I've been offered a cylinder head off a later ford mk4? fiesta Endura DE it looks pretty similar to me but are these engines the same? I was going to bung a new gasket and belt on with this new head and crossed fingers! The fiesta i've borrowed from a work college for my mum to run around in after her 1.9TD volvo snapped the cam belt 20k after being changed!(Sods law)My drive has started to fill up with dead cars! Anyone want and bits from a 2001 volvo v40? cheers Mat

Fingers crossed, there will be no piston damage?

Even non snapped belt engine usually have valve marks on the pistons! they run rather close make sure you get the right thickness HG, they come in 4 thicknesses and you need to know whay yours was (count the holes or notches in the gasket tab usually above the pump but not allways) to allow for piston protrusion.

Cheers guys! Well, I'm expecting some piston damage, after all the cam is in 3 bits!. The car was idling at the time of snap so hopefully the damage is minimal. Unlike the Volvo where I had to dig the valves out of the pistons! Which is why I gave up trying to fix it. Motor factors have just been on the phone telling me about the various head gaskets. So Id best strip the thing and have a look. Can you reuse the head bolts on these diesels? Motor factors didn't know.

Pretty certain they are stretch bolts, just go for the thickest head gsket to be safe.
