Ladies and gentlemen,
I bring you a 1993 BMW 520i Touring Manual on a K’ Reg with a mere genuine 34k miles on the clock!!! Yes 34k miles for a 17 year old car….and the best bit?! The previous owner was Phil Collins!
A bit of history…
So let’s start with a bit of history about the vehicle – As stated this is a rare opportunity to own a vehicle previously owned by the singer Phil Collins. This car was purchased by Phil Collins back in 1994 when just a year old for his wife at the time, Jill Collins/Tavelman from a BMW dealership in Surrey – The previous owner being a pilot. The Collins’ have then owned it since then (17 years) and put very little miles on the car as it was only used for 2/3 weeks of the year when Jill/Phil would fly in from LA to their UK property - hence the very low miles. Come to think of it, 30k of the 34k miles were done in the first year by the pilot prior to Phil Collins. Then 4k over the years whilst Phil owned it – approximately 235 miles per year!! They have maintained the car throughout this regardless of mileage in between each service.

A reminder of some of Phil Collins music -
An odd choice of car for Phil Collins to buy!? – Well, back in 1993, I’m sure there were plenty of these old e34’s on the roads around Surrey and it wouldn’t have been a car that would have drawn a great deal of attention, however these e34’s are getting a little rare now and this being in the great condition it is in is starting to attract a bit of attention again….hence why they have just purchased a new BMW 320d estate!
Onto the car….
..The mechanics
I picked the car up from Horsham on the West Sussex/Surrey borders and drove the car back 120ish miles to my place in Wiltshire. To say the car drives phenomenally is a real understatement. It drives just like a new car…but then it is expected as it has newish car miles on it! The suspension is tight and doesn’t make any strange noises and the engine hums so quietly it is hard to tell sometimes it is even running. There is no jerking either or any flat spots. The clutch is as it should be and the brake pedal feels good. No vibrations either at speed. It runs and drives like a dream.
Naturally, with the car seeing very little use over the years some parts needed changing for the MOT (I put the car in for 12 months MOT and it needed a ball joint, a couple of drop links etc. – which have been changed)
The exterior...
Externally the car is in great condition with no scratches or marks to note. I've given it a good valet and polish and the bodywork does come up well. It seems BMW back in this era used to build these cars to last and give them a decent coat of paint as when polished it shines beautifully.
There is nothing stopping this from being valeted up to concourse standard.
I have also just purchased two new number plates as Jill did feel attached to the car having owned it for such a long time that she wanted a keep-sake so retained the number-plates for sentimental reasons.
IMPORTANT NOTE! – I couldn't believe it when I saw it but it has the EXTREMELY rare factory twin-sunroof. I believe these were an expensive option and I haven’t seen another 5 series with this type of sunroof before. All working as it should be and not leaking.
The car quite literally wants for nothing!
The Interior…
It is common on these old E34 5 series for the drives seats and bolsters to wear out very quickly and be reduced to threads in no time at all, but I can safely say that this interior is in IMMACULATE condition with no stains or dirty marks – All in line with the very little use this car has had. The rear seats don’t appear to have ever been sat on! Everything works too – roof, windows, mirrors, heating, air con, and rear de-mister etc.etc.
And finally…
…So there you have it – whether you want to buy the car and bury it away in a garage or barn for years to come (as these are starting to appreciate now) or use it every day…it’s an outstanding example with a pampered history…
.. I urge all genuinely interested parties to come down and have a look at this car as I am not (for obvious reasons) going to publish a photo of their address all over EBay. Come down, take the car for a drive (proof of valid insurance required) and make your own mind up as to whether you’d like to place a bid – I can’t be any fairer than that! I’m not trying to hide anything; I just want to cut out the timewasters and dreamers that are rife here on EBay! This is a real rare opportunity and I couldn't think of anywhere better for this car to be advertised.
