firstly police are aware I found it and have it safely tucked away next to mine. on the way back from the school run this morning a few streets away from home I found this beautiful example of my favourite motorbike. so after speaking to the police I took it home and safely locked it up in my garage next to my basket case project, A Yammaha RD125LC MK1 in stunning candy blue, I can tell its been lovingly restored the beauty I found next to my beast that's not been ridden in 10yrs have I done the right thing by taking it in and keeping it in a safe place until its owner can be found? or should I have just left it there?

according to the police its not been reported stolen (yet), I suspect the owners at work.
they have said they don't have space for it so it can stay here until they either find its owner or close the case.
I have posted it on the rd owners clubs in hope someone knows the bike

Umm... are sure it wasn't just parked up? is it taxed?
very odd to leave such a lovely (and relatively rare) bike just laying around.

You did the right thing. If Police had arranged recovery then owner would be looking probably a bill of over £100 plus so much a day storage.

Think the key phrase here is "after speaking to the police"
Either it's been abandoned due to breakdown, or pinched, but I suspect you'll be handing it back pretty soon

well its now back with its owner thanks to the rd forums I found the chap who restored it sold it to a chap in Bournemouth back in july. who recently sold it to a chap who lives 4 streets away from me, logbook hasn't been processed yet as he has only had it a few days and me saving it saved him storage fees and I made him cry with excitement

Maybe a new biking buddy ? I had a moped nicked and caught a chap wheeling it towards my house. He'd challenged a couple of pond life who promptly ran away. Luckily he recognised the machine and where I lived so it was only missing for less than 1/2 hour. Still made me sick to think I'd been working on the moped, nipped in to go to loo and when I went back out it had gone. Not visible to passers by as I live in Cul de Sac so it must have been targeted. Paul h

Glad it's back with it's rightful owner, and good work for being upfront and honest - sadly some wouldn't be.

Happy ending, they used to be fun bikes and surprisingly reliable I used to use mine on the M1 fairly regularly after I passed my test. Makes a change to see one that hasn't been fitted with a micron and K&N filter

I so want one of these for next year, When i turn 17. Time to get saving the pennies.
I'd hate to find my bike in a police lockup, Or stolen for that matter. So yeah i think you did the right thing ! (Could've been much worse if you didn't inform the police), Although it shows the many benefits of the internet now, seeing as you found the owner before the police.
Stephen.

Good result but don't forgot to inform the police officer that is has been returned to the rightful owner.
