1982 Morris ital 440 Van. Genuine Ex British Telecom (West London Division).
I have owned this van for about 4-5 years, bought as an unfinished project i spent several years getting it back on the road and for the past few years it has been both cool retro vehicle AND an extremely useful tool!
The van isn't quite concourse condition, but would not look out of place going to shows or simply out there being used. The bodywork is now 100% sound with no structural rust and a full respray a few years ago still looking good with only a few small chips. Inside it needs a few parts to finish, mainly some mats and door cards which i have yet to source myself (in all honesty haven't really looked that hard in a few years!!)
Mechanically mostly sound, a couple of small jobs need doing. Water pump bearings are noisey, exhaust blows a bit and the rear gearbox x-member mounts are perished. Otherwise the brakes and suspension was all overhauled by the previous owner and all works fine. Ive probably done about 5k miles in it since ive had it on the road with no real issues and no breakdowns.
Obviously as you can see the van has been lowered and is fitted with wide steel wheels (banded originals). It looks amazing as it is but if you did want it back to original its only a matter of taking the blocks off the axle, resetting the rear torsion bars and fitting some standard steels and the van would be back to 100% as it was intended. Also you will notice there are many features from its life as a telecom van still present. Theres the roof ladder rack which even comes with the original three tier ladders. There's also lots inside the van, some fitted some (like the mesh bulkhead and spares racks) just there in case you need them. Ive even got phones and a uniform!!
Over all id say its a great opportunity to own a retro van from this era. Less money than a pricey escort but way cooler, all the hard work done for you yet still a bit of potential for improvement if your the type that likes to get your hands dirty. Best of all the thing is just useful. I'm only selling as i now own a modern van through work and its pointless having two so I'm going back to classic car ownership.
