Hi all,
My Corrado has been making a quiet knocking noise when turning sharp right - swapped it over to coilovers last weekend along with lower profile tyres and the knocking is now more pronounced.
Went out Wednesday night for a more 'enthusiastic' hoon, having had the suspension settle for 100-odd miles and when swinging into a sharp right it sounds like Thor's hammer coming through the arch.
Given that the strut is new and the rear top mounts are a matching pair - and nearly new - is it likely to be the wheel bearing on the way out? There's not actually a lot else going on back there that could go wrong surely?

It could be as simple as a loose top mount or ARB drop link. The latter I would expect to be obvious though during the change.
When you say a sharp right though, I am starting to think of more sinister things. Does the car still steer OK? I would be tempted to take a wheel off, jack the hub up and see what the wheel experiences as it is turned to the right.

It wont be a wheel bearing as if it was it certaintly wouldnt give you a hammering sound at all,a worn out wheel bearing would rumble and the noise would be there all the time.......as yOu have had the suspension to bits I strongly suggest thaty you go don't drive hte car till you have checked that ALL the nuts /bolts are thougherly tightened and there is NO play in any part.

Loose mounts, worn bushes, loose wheelnuts/bolts. Exhaust mounting, something rolling around in the boot, As ^he said^ don't drive the car until you find out what's knocking. Jack up the side that's knocking using the jacking point and use axle stands but don't put them under the suspension or rear bea/ swingarms and with the handbrake OFF (chock the front wheels) be brutal with all the joints/ links/ and anything else that is attached.

Is your battery bolted down tight? I had a very similar problem on my mk2 golf , I spent ages checking bushes and bolts and bearings and it turned out to be the battery sliding around.

Thanks for the tips guys - going to investigate this arvo.
It's definitely rear N/S so not likely to be the battery...I was hoping the MOT would pick up on it but it sailed through yesterday?

I had very similar on my lexarse not long since, it turned out to be the BallJoint, and to actually diagnose it, I had to give it a fair tug with a breaker bar to get any movement when the car was jacked up..

Well I've had a look and found the exhaust weakly held on with two cable ties - one of which had snapped - so I've replaced that.
I've also ordered new top mounts anyway...

Might be a knackered CV joint if it's not fixed? Does it do it on full lock?

There's no CV on the rear and having gone over enough speed bumps I know it's from the back end-I've had CVs go before and they sound a bit less 'clunk' and more rattly...

That should have been an advisory on the MOT. Indeed... but like I say I'm not convinced at how stringent they were...for the sake of a tenner I'll take a punt.

I would seriously consider getting it retested, if they missed something as obvious as that what else have they missed?
