linky So if this actually happens what will you be doing (if anything) to keep the frost off your retro and out of your garage? I was thinking about getting one of those little heaters that you put in caravans when they are stored, just to keep it dry.

Gonna give the car a quick winter makeover, chuck the snow tyres and wheels on, tighten the handbrake up and go and do some skids.

I aim to either buy a pug 309 if i can, or my grandads old 205 automatic. Yes it'll be slow, but in theory, no weight, snow tyres ( i have) a massive set of lights on it, roof rack, shovel, tow rope, and maybe a blanket in case i rescue any hot girls.

I've bought winter tyres for the Breadvan this year, and I'm going to remove the splitter during the snow as it always manages to plough up enough slush to smash itself to bits. May also fit the big Hella spot ligts I've got in the garage.
I can't wait for some hooning around at 10mph in the snow!

well these days you can have flash floods or snow drifts! And yes the poor weather forecasters are only giving a clculated guess at what might come. Old saying 'prepare for the worst and pray it doesn't happen!'
I have pulled people's vehicles out of flood water and snow drifts with the neon. This time a bit more brute force from a bigger engine and box and a removable winch for the tow bar with a 14 meter reach. Next snow chains!

that has just made me remember to check where the air intake opening is on mothers volvo! Most people don't think about it when they go waiding into water, until the engine takes it and fecks up! After heavy snows will come floods from the melting snow. So make sure your drains a free and clear of debris!

I'd take it with a pinch of salt, they can't predict the weather the next friggin day , never mind 2 months away Agreed. Will be a load of rubbish. Too right! Here's a response to the Express' claims from another meteorological source... "I just don't understand their thinking, these people arnt qualified , they look at a long range model , which is just a flipping model that changes every hour and then declare a state of emergency . There is no meteorologist in the world that would put money on a long range" But, if it does happen, I shall be stuck. My Vectra isn't built for the snow. So, I'll be holed up at home, drinking hot toddies and watching... Chris

Ive got snow chains for the 4x4 and a set of winter tyres for the BMW which id have had anyway as ive got to go 6 miles down a single track ungritted lane with some big hills if I want to leave the house.
If it gets really bad and the past 3 years here we have been cut off for a week or 2 then I will get the quad or horse out and go across country. ;D

I'll be riding my motorbike to work, like I do every year. Failing that, the pushbike will come out. And if all else fails, I can always sit with the 2mph crawl in my Jeep. Or work from home

I'd take it with a pinch of salt, they can't predict the weather the next friggin day , never mind 2 months away Amen. I and most of the English public will panic, run in circles a lot, write angry letters to the Daily Mail (WHY WEREN'T WE PREPAAAARED?!?) empty the local one-stop of everything as a bit of snow clearly heralds the coming of the four horseman, dawdle, panic some more and then realise that I just need to use a little extra common sense when driving. And keep the MX-5 for funsnowskiddytimes.

The way I generally treat harsh winters is to potter to work as usual in either of my lightweight, unprepared, rear-wheel drive, traction-control free and comparatively cheap sportscars without actually encountering much of a problem. Then I drive my heavy, specially-modified, all-wheel drive, ridiculously electronically controlled and staggeringly expensive trains... usually about five stations or so before the whole infrastructure collapses and we then spend hours stuck in the middle of nowhere trying not to freeze to death while the poor long-suffering fare-paying public in the back revert to some kind of Lord Of The Flies-style feudal society and bring back cannibalism. It's a sort of winter ritual, quite endearing really
