I haven't actually introduced myself on here yet, I shall do in the appropriate section after this. Basically, I'm after a new car. I currently have a 1989 Escort Popular, mint one owner blah blah I won't bore you with the details , but I'd like something with a bit of poke. Only problem being is insurance, I have just turned 21 on friday and will have 2 years no claims in early september so it's a little better now. I've been looking at DC2 Integras, but I do like to be different from most my age so I'm after some ideas! So fire away! Ben.

Bit of a tricky one without knowing more of a brief. Budget? What is it for? How handy are you? Shortlist? Without knowing any of that I suggest a Porsche 924 before someone else does, but really think you should get an Aston db4 zagato....

Reading back, I didn't really include any useful information, sorry!
I was budgeting about £3.5k for a DC2, but could go a touch higher. It's a daily smoker, I don't do many miles at all, 12 there and back from work plus 2 miles there and back from the gym 4/5 times a week. Needs to be a standard car that responds well to a bit of tinkering.
I don't really have a short list, I'd consider anything! I was looking at a Primera GT earlier, seems a lot of car for the money.

Saab 9-3 turbo? MX5? Primera GT's are a really good car. Would be worth spending a bit of time playing around on compare the meercat and chucking in some of the cars you really want as some of them can come out surprisingly cheaper than expected (or the next model down). I would have thought a teggy would have been pretty harsh on the insurance. What sorts of cars/scenes are you into? How bad is the insurance on the teggy and what are you prepared to pay (not that I could judge what others are going to sting you for, 21 was too long ago ?

E30... cheap to buy. Easy to maintain. Easy to modify. Just great cars in my opinion.

Before anything you need to check your insurance and on a classic car policy you don't build no claims up and can be limited to over 25s.
Providing the insurance pans out you have a healthy budget so there's a lot to look at.

Always fancied a nice Saab, especially a 9k! Well, fully comp with £250 excess a DC2 comes in at a little under £900, which all things considered, I didn't think was bad at all. I do like Fords, but I'm by no means blinkered by it, if anything I'd like to stray away for a while!

With that budget go RWD, even with less power than something FWD it will be a lot more fun and 99% of the time far more rewarding.
Given that you are young and mortgage less and childless(?) I would be looking at really stupid, impractical cars while you have the chance.
Some the most fun cars I have ever had have been kit cars with stupid fold up roofs and dodgy doors that don't keep the winter out, you'll be forced into sensible cars far to soon so make the most of it now, why buy some Japanese or German tin box when you could drive a hot rod or a loony looking lightweight kit car?

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Very true, I really don't have many responsibilities or have the need for something practical, I hadn't thought of it like that! How does one go about insuring kit cars? I'd of thought most usual companies wouldn't touch them.

I insured my q plate kit car with www.2getherinsurance.com/They were very reasonable (I have a good 15 years on you though) Personally I like the sound of your escort, why not give that a good tweak?

Integra? How about going a little bit older and finding yourself a Mk2 CRX VTEC?
Just watch out for the rust...

I just want something new really, plus I see it as being too clean/original to play with! Does anyone know at what point a car becomes eligible for classic insurance?

I'd zetec the scrote or if its a 1.3 just sling a 1.6 cvh in. Really simple to do and will be started and finished before dinner.
Underpowered rwd cars are rubbish unless its snowing.

Or raining, or has just rained, or you fitted skinny tyres, or a LSD....... I grew up with xflow RWD fords, you don't need power to have fun in a RWD with our weather. there are some good fwd cars, but pretty much ALL rwd cars will make a curse word rainy day trip to work fun.
