Need a little advice, having a bit of a torrid with my ford pinto powered vw camper all in the last week and a half.
First alternator packs in - replaced that
Second someone hits rear end - got that repaired and painted
Third one of my webers got hungry (despite full tank of super) and swallowed a washer off the airfilter (obviously didn't like as it spat it out the exhaust) - engine currently in bits
Latest problem extends to battered piston and scored cylinder bore. Valves, seats and head seem to have gotten away fairly unscathed, nothing a bit of lapping won't cure. Now I'd love to rebore the block and fit all new pistons but the funds just do not exist and thus my question is; can you get away with a bit of scoring if you hone the block and fit new piston/rings? There are four or five just visible vertical scores which can't be felt and one which is a little deeper which I can just about feel.
I know this is a subjective issue but just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation? Also if I were to try honing it, what have I got to lose apart from the cost of a piston if it doesn't work. I mean choosing this route is not likely to cause any further issues that wouldn't be cured by an eventual rebore would it?
Any advice appreciated - have a pic of a rather fine example of one of my lottery win cars
