I am trying to get my tiny head around an engine conversion. 1969 Petrol Merc to 1986 Diesel Merc.
I can see some stupid curse word about to happen -
The acceptor car has got a Manual or Direct sensing Oil Pressure gauge. This is basically an oil line that goes all the way from the engine to an oil gauge on the dash. The donor is electrical....I think.
The Acceptor has a "bulb" driven coolant temp gauge. Basically a long copper tube with a "bulb" on it which is screwed in somewhere. The bulb probably has some kind of liquid in it, poss mercury which moves the gauge as it expands.
The acceptor rpm gauge is petrol. So runs off the spark? Diesel doesnt have a spark, I wonder if I need something to drive it off the Alternator or install a crank sensor??!
I would like to modify these gauges to electrically driven. Basically, retaining the faces but changing the actuator thingies to accept electrical info from new electrical sensors for oil pressure, Coolant temp and rpm
I would appreciate any contact please? I am in Lancs, if it helps, but I could easily send these bits off for redoing. Gauge pic FYI
