this story started a long while ago, hankering for a Yank motor but always believing they were way outta my price range to justify buying. mortgage, kids, holidays yada yada yada.
Having owned a silly amount of VW's I was slowly getting a little bored of the scene, seeing the same old golfs and campers. Although I do still have my 181 Trekker which hopefully wont ever be sold.
A random meeting with two local legends in the Yank scene who live in the same Town as me saw me drooling over their awesome rides, this jump started me back in action of wanting a Yank, any oldish yank would do.
Old faithful Retro Rides to the rescue again (or help in depleting my wallet depending on which way you/your wife sees it!!)
F250, local, mot'd and running...........but VERY dirty.
a deal was done and it was driven home a few days ago.
Spec wise it is the Lariat which I'm told means it has leccy windows.
Sliding rear window
opening quarter lights
Bed liner
Rear ali twin Tool chest
and best of all........twin LPG tank conversion......phew 12 mpg might not be too bad afterall
Its big loud and noisy, yet purrs when on tickover.
I have no plans as such just yet other than to give it a service, and take it to an LPG expert to check the system before I fill it up.
The history of it is just amazing to me, despite byuing off a forum member he only had it a matter of months and just moved it on, I was given the phone number of the previous owner, i'm glad I rang him
He purchased the truck in Las Vegas whilst holidaying with his wife, keeping it in States he returned and used it in combo with a 5th wheeler (big Yank articulated caravan type setup) for quite a few years.
Then changing to Canada Holidays he took it to Canada.
Then finally brought it into the UK in 2001, had the LPG installed and used it here as a work truck.
His wife passed a few years ago so it sat just being moved around to keep things fresh until finally it was sold to the RR member, then to me.
I hope to give it the love it deserves and has clearly had so far
