Afternoon all.
I'm in the market for a 150mph-ish car for about £500.
Candidates include the LS400, a Jaguar V8 of sorts, E36 328is, maybe an MG ZT 2.5 190, that kind of thing - basically, if it's got a decent lump and it'll do 140-ish or maybe 150, I'm sold.
Cash waiting and ready to go. Needs some T&T and to be a good(ish) driving car, other than that I don't really care! Bit of a challenge going on.
If you know of anything, please shout!
Cheers,
Lewis

Don't want too much then Try a saab 9.3 2.3t Or a saab 93 karlson, but you'll be lucky to get one of these

If you can't beat em, knock em off

800 Vitesse should be a few 800s out there but would need to look hard as there is plenty of rotten ones.

My Alfa 156 2.0TS will do mid 130s and be available at the start of September (MOT til next June and Tax til end of Nov). I suspect it's not fast enough or soon enough for you though.
The V6s will top 140 easily and are quite cheap, handle pretty good for a FWD car too!

I've got my 95 Jag XJ6 4.0 Sport in the for sale section for £575. No idea if it can do that kind of speed though. PM me if you're interested.

Don't want too much then My first thoughts, i know big thirsty (fast) barges are cheap but Interesting challenge though. I'd suggest a BMW E38 750i V12, factory limited to 155 (sure i read somewhere they are good for 180 unrestricted), i'd expect one at 500 would be a dog though.

Although E38 prices are truly ensconced in bager territory, you won't find a 750i for £500 - not yet at least. Certainly not a roadworthy one. As above an Alfa 156 V6 would do the trick too (should you not buy the Jaguar). My Sportwagon 6 speed will do (and has done) over 140mph with more to go; I would suspect the saloon to be slightly lighter and would crack it, probably good for 155mph.

A Saab 9-5 aero with do that 'but' i'd be on the look out for a rough Alfa GTV V6 I've seen them go for that kind of money needing cosmetic work, a 3.0 will nudge 150 but a 3.2 if you could find one will nudge 160...
I also saw an MOT'd but rough round the edges supercharged XJ-R go for £430 quid a couple of weeks back..

I'd go for a Saab 9-3 or 9-5 turbo as well. They are properly well built, and I first drove one when I bought mine at the start of the year and they are very quick. The 9-3 2.0 is around 210 and the 9-5 2.3 is 230+ bhp. The engine ended up in my Astra mk3. They are easily tunable and it cost me 100 quid to get it up to 270bhp (which is more than enough).
