Is anyone able to tell me if a tall car CB aerial will fit in the normal aerial thread? I would quite like to get one for my car but don't want to spend the money to find it won't work.
If it isn't a direct fit can you get adapters, and if so where abouts. My searches aren't uncovering much.
Thanks all.

I don't fully understand your question. I've got a splitter that allow a normal car aerial to work as a CB aerial. I'd never tried using it - cheap in local CB shop clearance bin ! When CB's first became legal in 1981 I had a proper CB telescopic aerial that also worked for the car radio. As a CB aerial it had limited range and PIA to tune. OK for receiving but you always had to ensure fully extended before transmitting and then it was fingers crossed it didn't damage to Cb hecne they went out of fashin very fast. If you are asking if a CB aerial will work for a radio then no problem. I have a whip aerial that was used with a PYE comunication system in a GPO Telephones van that I have added a normal radio plug and works fine. BTW how many people didn't realise with old MW / LW radios you have to tune them to the aerial. Often there is a tiny hole somewhere in the facia that you insert a jewelers screwdriver and tune for the best signal .

It's only for a normal FM radio that I bought the other week (new one that will be hidden in the dashboard) but on the back I want a rather big silver metal/chrome aerial and I thought CB aerial is easier way to find one. There is no Cb radio in the car though. Just want to know if you can screw a CB aerial into a normal aerial thread. Hope this is making sense now?

Do you mean you have a CB aerial and want to know if the thread on the base is the same as a car radio item ? If so the answer is no. Car radio aerial base can be any size thread and whilst there might only be 2-3 different sizes used they are a lot smaller than the standised thread used on CB aerials. All is not lost as why not simply use a CB base ? They can be bought in all types of format including car aerial "look-a-like". It'd then be a simple case of running cable to radio and attaching plugs at either end. www.thunderpole.co.uk/fixed-body-mounts.htmlPaul H
