	hi all, ive decided to take the plung proper into a retro car with (hopefully) an early mgb sebring type replica (maybe not the wide arches??) with some sort of ford 16v throttle body conversion. I'm not exactly 'green' when it comes to old cars having owner a few pugs in my time (ph1 306 cab, ph1 xs1 cab, ph1 205 gti6 and currently a ph1.5 205 gti with an xu7 engine in it) but to be honest I know nothing about ford engines which is the plan going forward with this poject. my current 205 project can be found over on the 205 drivers forum: forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=130168 this is hiow she stands at the mo: basically I promised the wife that when the 205 was finished she could choose the next car to 'play' with. she has decided (well with a little help from me) on an mgb gt but brought into the 21st century. I've been toying with different engines including k series, t series, bmw etc, but I think I'm settled on a zetec/duratec with either a mt75 or type 9 box. now I don't really know too much about ford engines, ideally I would like a duratec st engine but am concerned about the vvt and dmf setup so a basic silvertop of blacktop would be the sensible option? 2.0ltr would be the size. can anyone give me any actual facts and advice on what's best to go for engine wise? id like to keep the spend down but by no means be a cheap skate with it, will be running tb's and some sort of aftermarket management. I don't mind doing some head work as I quite enjoyed that on the xu7 so would need to be an alloy head (are they all?) so strongish bottom end and a decent head (not really fancying the st170 head and vvt setup) best one for parts and interchangability across the ford range along with mating to a rwd box. so far I have got silvertop 2.0 engine and fly, pinto clutch and type 9 box. more than likely emerald or omex management...... also is there a section for pojects on this forum? cheers pete

	Have a look on turbosport forum, everything you need to know about rwd a zetec will be on there and i'm pretty sure there are a couple of mg's already on there.

	The type 9 will bolt straight up and is a relatively small gearbox. It isn't a perfect mate up, but enough bolts do for it to work. The MT75 should also bolt up, but a but harder to find in 2wd form, has a cast in bell housing and is bigger physically. I believe the mt75 also utilises a rubber do but for the props haft (sliding joint on the type 9). Managementwise you can go the route you mention, mega jolt or bike carbs and mega jolt. Budget ignition uses the ESCignition units from late mk3+4 fiesta and escorts. It's all proven stuff in the world of fast fords. The 2 litre engine is rated at 130bhp in ford form, but better induction and exhaust should give an easy 150 bhp+. The only bug bear with the 2 litre engine is that the water pump rubs backwards (in a ford it runs a kind of serpentine belt, and runs on the back off the belt. Water pumps are available to rectify this. The main issue when mounting the ford engines in rwd format is that the thermostat / water outlet ends hard up against the bulkhead. There are after market / home brewed fixes to this though. Wheteabouts are you based? I planned fitting a 2 litre blacktop into a Lada and got as far as mating the engine and box, and fabricating up the bike carbs manifold.

	2WD MT75s are plentyfull in 4 pot flav, it's the V6 2WD boxes that are hard to find, TBH i prefer the T9 over the MT75 but the MT is stronger if a little bulkyer and the MT (as said) has no sliding yoke on the output so a sliding joint ewill be have to made into a prop Duratec wont fit either box as it's a mazda unit and doesn't have the ford bellhousing pattern of old so need adapter plates (extra cost), either engine will need water rails and or revised W/P or idler wheels on the cam belt.

	Cossie t5 is a good box,if a tad more expensive. Don't rule out the st170 motor,very solid lump and getting cheap now. Your at 170 straight away and although not as readily tuneable as the zetec a few bits and bobs and you've got a nice useable motor. Why not try an mx5 engine and box as an alternative? Already rwd,well proven and superchargers are available!!!

	Why a ford engine when theres rover ones that bolt straight in, they used basically the same block until recently, I think even the turbo ones from the 90's tomcat coupes go in easily and are dirt cheap?

	If money was not a massive issue I would be tempted with a Duratec in your situation. On TBs and decent management they are reliable and make great BHP. However as said, a Zetec will probably be cheaper to put in thanks to the fact that it has been around for quite some time.
