Heya all!
I'm trying to find a beefier electric fan for my Land Rover, does anybody know what cars/vans had the strongest ones going for 12v? Aiming up to 14" single diameter, though may go bigger

I'd simply fit a standard mechanical fan to the waterpump. Never had a problem with any of my Land Rover overheating.

When exactly does your LR overheat?.
The Kenlowe on the Stag with the recon rad keeps it cool for pretty much every situation. On the old silted rad (which looked fine outside) it would struggle to keep it cool enough in traffic and travelling over 50MPH down a motorway was a big no no.

have emptied the 'coolant' (was mostly water) out of her today, replaced by quite strong mix antifreeze. Also rrtried fitting a standard series fan, but with this one having the later 2.5 n/a diesel the bolt holes on the pump & pulley don't fit.
This is in my 882, she seems to be getting Very warm on runs, even without a thermostat. the waterpump appears to be work as it froths the water in the rad up lol
Also this is my current fan:

As a rule the old landy engines will run cooler due to the mechanical fan. What lump do you have in there? P.S. ran a landrover workshop for around 10 years and have had about a dozen myself ;-)

As its a N/A and it runs hot without thermostat then it might be worth seeing if the head gasket has failed. If its not getting that hot , then look at the temp sender being up the swanny, if you know someone with a non contact thermometer , borrow that and see what the temp of the rad is when warm and also the heater hoses as this will give you a better idea of the actual temp of the engine and indicate if there is a restriction in the water flow and if the temp sender is the challenge.

Are you going to the FUCEM meet in a couple of weeks time Violet? I may come along and bring my temp gun along (an IR gun which measures temperature wherever you point it(I bought it when I got the Stag . Failing that, the guns are cheap on ebay (I paid around £14 posted for mine, and have used it for many other things (for cars with tubular manifolds, it is great for seeing what cylinder is the problem).

You might consider getting smaller fans and going to a twin fan set up? You cover more of the rad thataway.
Although have to agree that with a mechanical fan you'd be hard pressed to overheat a n/a lump.

xXx Err stupid question time ...(no offence) but is the fan in the right place? Some are for mounting in front of rad, others for engine bay side, so you end up with airflow going wrong way ......

A pull fan with a shroud will be far better than that thing just slapped in the middle of the radiator. No matter how strong it is it's only moving air over a tiny area at the moment.
