Ok, so it goes like this. I got a righteously beautiful set of Compomotive MLs for the FB, but the problem is they come with nasty plastic centrecaps. The wheels are anthracite with a polished rims, and the centre caps are chromed plastic like this;
which clearly looks utterly cack against a gunmetal background. Now, basically there don't seem to be any centrecaps that fit Compomotive wheels except genuine Compomotive ones. They have a tab mounting diameter of about 63.5mm, so my initial plan of getting flat generic ones and putting a decal on has been blown out the water, they're all either slightly too big or slightly too small. I got some blue anodised ones from an aftermarket firm who bought the tooling for the old style Compo caps, but lovely as they are, they look daft on the car, too...
Soooooo, all I can think of now is to paint the chromey ones to match the wheels. Which begs the question, how to get the chrome off so the paint will stick? It's not looking too good sanding them as the raised lettering and logo means they stay shiny in the important bits around the emblem. What chemical would get the chrome off but not muller the plastic? I'm guessing Nitromors would dissolve the whole lot into an ugly mess and I don;t want to totally curse word them. I think the blue ones are anodised alloy, but in a way they're too nice to mutilate, I'd possibly rather sell them on to someone who'd love them
Opinions/hints/tips welcome, if you'd be so kind? Ta
