I have a bit of a problem with my V8 project.
I'm building the V8 to go into my Capri and the problem is that i cant get the engine and gearbox together.
The parts list so far is...
Rover 4.6 cross bolted engine
Rover SD1 bell housing
Rover SD1 clutch and flywheel
R380 gearbox from an LDV pilot (RWD) van (aparrently a straight swap for a RWD LT77)
When they are all together and i try to fit the gearbox/bell housing Assembly to the engine, the input shaft for the gearbox bottoms out on the spigot bearing. which results in there being a gap of roughly 15mm (shown as 143 on the drawing) between them. I made the drawing below to show what i mean as its not the best explanation!
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone knows of a solution, but the only options i can see so far are:
- Make a spacer between the bell housing and gearbox to space it back
- Machine the input shaft for the gearbox
- Get a LT77 gearbox from an SD1 instead of the R380 (stronger and newer) gearbox
Any help is much appreciated! and if anyone wants to come have a look there will be lots of tea and biscuits on tap!
