It is with a heavy heart that I put my little Mazda up for sale... I had hoped to keep this car for a while, but I'm not using it, and I cant stand to see it sit and rust!!
Anyway, she is an early UK model series 1 SE. First registered in late '92 on a K reg, so one of the last of the original 200 SE models around. She's now wearing a private J reg number plate, that was on there when I got it (no idea what it means!!). Being a series 1 SE, she has very nice 15" deep dish wheels as standard, as well as full tan leather interior, electric windows, power steering, ABS and wooden gearknob and handbrake. Originally there would have been a wooden/chrome steering wheel to match, but this has been replaced with a smaller momo type wheel (I actually prefer this to the SE one!). There is also wiring for a heated rear window and front fogs, though none are fitted.
She also has a full LaserLine 996V3 Alarm/Immobiliser with central locking and a cool lazy windows feature, that winds the windows up when the car is locked. it will come with 1 remote fob, 3 immobiliser buttons (1 not currently programmed) and 2 spare keys. The windows are abit slow, but still work. I have sprayed some lithium grease in the mechanisms which improved them, but this was a while ago, and may need repeating.
Another interior mod I have done is to fit MSSSS seat speakers and thumpers. The door speakers and thumpers are driven from an AMP fitted in the boot, with the headrest speakers driven from the head unit. The head unit has inputs for CD's, AUX and an external Ipod connection (routed to the ashtray currently). The electric ariel is broken unfortunately (the motor still works, it just needs a new mast, so cheaper to fix).
On around 120K miles atm, with some service history to back this up. The engine pulls really well, I have a suspicion the ECU has been chipped, as the rev limiter is above the standard 7000, but I have no idea how to check. In the short time I have owned it, I have given it a service, new plugs and a pipercross air filter with drilled airbox (a standard un-drilled airbox will be included in the sale). A decat pipe is also included in the sale as I have not had time to fit it yet! Also recently the coil pack gave up the ghost, so it has been converted to toyota COPs, but I will include all the bracketry needed to convert back, and the old coil pack as well. The cops seem to run fine on the standard ECU, and remove the need for plug leads. I have also replaced the clutch slave cylinder, as the clutch started dragging in traffic due to the old one leaking.
Suspension wise, she has fitted a full set of Tein type HA adjustable coilovers. These were fitted by a previous owner, and were not in great condition when I got the car. I have had to free up most of the adjusters (some are abit mangled because of it but still work fine), as well as freeing up 1 damper adjuster. The drivers front coilover is missing its click adjuster but can still be adjusted with an allen key. This never bothered me personally, but I will order a new click adjuster for it anyway. I have also had to replace the front lower ball joints as when I got the car they were shot!! Other than that, the suspension is brilliant, the car handles really nicely, and its characteristics can be easily changed with the coilovers. Also worth mentioning that these are good quality coilovers, the ride is very good and can again be adjusted easily if you find it too harsh.
The bodywork is very good on this car, it is largely very straight, with only a couple of dings and scratches. The paint is in good condition also, and polishes up very nicely. There is also almost no rust on the car. All of the arches are immaculate, The sills are also very solid. There are some scratches on the subframes which are showing surface rust, but I will tran and clean these this weekend. The only bits of rust to note are the very bottom of the passengers wing, which has seen better days, but I have cleaned it up abit and it still bolts to the sill fine. Also, the drivers rear sill has been repaired at some point. I have no details on the repair, but it feels and looks very solid, and has been painted in the correct Brilliant Black paint. (there is evidence of this in the service history; paint codes and such). Externally the only thing I have done to it is fit a Eunos rear panel, as I feel this suits the car more. This panel is unfortunately not brilliant black, its a close match, but can be seen when the car is clean. it will come with its original rear panel, although it is missing its 'SE' and 'ABS' badges, and has some broken clips (basically the reasons for removal). Also, I have used the uk lights in the JDM panel, as I did not want to cut holes in the rear valance to fit the JDM ones (they will be included if the new owner wants better numberplate lights!)
Lights wise, all of the reflectors have been painted black/heavily smoked (not sure), and the sidelights/indicators are smoked too, and look pretty good! the sidelights are LED type ones to suit the white headlights. There is also a sleepy eye kit fitted.
The roof is also in good condition, if slightly faded. There are no rips or tears, and the rear window has always been unzipped before lowering. The door seals are all good, as are the front seals. The passengers roof clip is slightly worn, but still clamps the roof closed fine. I think it is a replacement roof, as it has a different style rear window to the mazda ones I have seen, no proof of this however... It also has a wind blocker fitted, which really helps when the roof is down
Here are a few old pics, I will clean, polish and take better pics this weekend
Overall this is a brilliant, clean and solid little car, the only time it has let me down was the coilpack failing, but it could still drive under light load and got me home fine It's been great fun owning this car and like I say, I wish I could keep it. The car is lovely to drive, the steering is nicely weighted, with lots of feel, and the coilovers make it handle like its on rails. The little 1.6 gives it just enough go without being too thirsty and if you keep the revs up, it'll really shift! (sounds good too )
with all this in mind, I'm looking for £1650 for the car, or very near offer. It has 6 months MOT but no tax unfortunately, and is relatively cheap to insure/run. I see no reason why it wont fly through the next MOT either
The car is located in shropshire, SY5 postcode, viewings are welcome
Thanks,
George
