So i seem to have aquired a small 4 cylinder Perkins engine from a Volvo F4 series light truck, and there is NO information whatsoever on the internet about it! Does anyone have any information on these engines, power and so (small non-turbo diesel, i don't suppose there is ANY power ;D)Has anyone turbocharged one? Thinking about putting it in a 2wd Dodge RAM\Power Wagon.  |

I'de guess it was a perkins phaser engine, there was a turbocharged variant available, they're good engines by all accounts. Possibly could be an older 4203 or 4236 which are pretty bulletproof but never going to be quick off the mark
Unless you've got stuff to run the perkins on for free or nearly so i wouldn't bother putting the diesel in, I'd gas what you have as the running costs are going to be similar at the pumps..

Theres a 110km drive to the closest LPG station, so thats not an option...  The Dodge comes with a 318, but that wont be economical enough to run. Might have gotten my hands on a TD40 engine from a Volvo F409 (i think), so might use that instead. Thanks for the answer! |

Its possible (although legally questionable) to fill an LPG tank from bottles or from your house tank... Was there a factory diesel option offered with the RAM's using a Cummins or something similar? |

Northern Norway. I`m just going to rule out LPG, it would cost an arm and a leg to get a tank of it home due to legal reasons.. The RAM came with a Cummins 12v 5.9 diesel engine, but the Volvo engines i have mentioned have one big advantage, they are free ;D

How far north are you? I myself live 20km south of Trondheim and I got a 87 VW LT 50 that starts and runs standing here. It has a 2,4l 6cyl TurboDiesel engine in it. If you want it you can have it, for free About 100kms south of Bodø, so a little bit away, but i`ll keep it in mind!  I just fear that a 2.4 litre engine might be a bit small for a big Dodge pickup |
