When I broke my Proton up I kept the Evo coilovers that were on it. By chance they're a pretty much bolt on fit for the Multipla, however they drop it 5-6", which is far too much for a family daily that my girlfriend mainly drives. The lower strut bracket is the standard 2 bolt type - do you reckon it would be safe to use the current lower bolt in the top hole of the hub carrier, then extend the bracket down to meet the other hole and brace it up. From a quick measure it'd give a 4" drop, which is pretty much ideal. It's also free haha.

If it can be welded/braced strong enough then I'm sure they wont fall off...but there are other things to think about. First would be welding the strut, it really wants to be taken apart and drained of oil before welding. Also keeping the camber correct with the new holes will need careful attention. Last but not least, if the struts are that much shorter, the stroke must be a lot less and will probably result in a horrible handling car!

Oh, not forgetting that the strut will be pressurised in case you take it apart!
