Please excuse me as I wipe away a tear having said goodbye to an old and trusted friend who never let me down. I spent an awful lot of time driving it and still more keeping it on the road and despite it looking well past it's best I had made it pretty solid bodywise. I hope the new owner treats it right.

These model transits must have something about them as my friend wasn't the same for a week after selling his one.

No apology needed. I spent six years of my life locked in one of those (though they let me out at nights, lol) In another life I worked for a late unlamented security firm doing cash transfers, and Transits were my mobile home form home. Just the toughest, most unkillable vehicle ever, no matter what we did to them they just wouldn't die ;D Bear in mind the works would take a stocker and weld about three ton of armour plate on with very little in the way of upgrades to engine or structure, it was miraculous they lasted round the block let alone the interstellar mileages we used to clock up. We used to get air over a humpback bridge near Billingshurst and it never broke. Funny when some silly *ahem* lady driver decided to go right from the inside lane on a roundabout, right into the side of our armour. It just sorta went "bong" and shuddered a bit. I got out and she was like "oh, I don't know what happened, I never know which lane to choose on roundabouts". I tried to be sympathetic and pointed out that maybe she'd have a better idea forthwith. She was very apologetic and wanted to check the van was alright. "Well," I said, examining the damage. "You've smashed the side repeater." Then I looked at her Escort. It looked like it had been dropped from a crane My crewmate was absolutely p'ing himself in the back of the van ;D Transits, we salute you

I spent 4 years in a smiley Hitop 190 when I was a Plant machinery field service engineer. Always loaded to the limit with tools, oil, diesel, gas bottles etc, and still did 90 on the motorways private roads. (OK, so i 'may' havde tweaked the pump up a bit lol) Even dragging a 4 wheel trailer with cement mixers and god knows what else, the old gal still kept going, and was a damn comfortable drive to Being on the plant, some of the access roads were not the best (if they even existed) but it never let me down. IMO, the best van Ford ever produced

We had it from new in '96. First my boss's dad used it, then my boss and then me for at least the last 10 years. It used to be used a lot but as work has changed I was only using it to get to and from work and not much else. It had just gone over 110,000 miles so just about run in. I won't miss the diesel stain on my drive though. Since it became mine it never let me down but every time my boss borrowed it something would always happen whether it was the servo pump going, the timing belt going or him hitting something. Happy times. It even made a Beach Party when my Rickman threw a sicky.
