Hi
About a year ago a neighbour gave me a 99 S type V6 with manual gearbox after MOT failure on rust. I've just got around to doing something with it but can't get the damned thing to go.
Always started and ran fine until being parked up and now it won't fire. The battery went flat over that time so I replaced it with another, checked all 3 fuse panels but nothing obvious amiss.
Central locking still works off the blipper. I can't hear the pump run and a squirt of 'start you sod!' down the air intake shows it's not firing either....
Suggestions?

sounds like could be immobiliser issues. my dads xj8 needed a couple of open/lock cycles before it deimmobilised ,the last time it had a flat battery. tldr lock and unlock it a few times with the (actual) key

Does it turn over? IME most Fords will not even turn over without the immobiliser disarming. I would expect Jags of this era to be the same. I would be looking to the crank sensor if it is refusing to fire up. No amount of East Start will start it with a duff one (short of the engine dieselling ). On two occasions I have had crank sensors randomly die on me (fortunately either at home, or near home).

Thanks for the comments. I'll try the locking first.
Yes it spins over normally and everything else works but just doesn't fire. I am no fan of easystart due to the engine damage caused from over use but a quick squirt does tell you quite quickly whether or not there is a spark (plugs etc are well buried on this car in particular)
The crank sensor crossed my mind too so will try this next.
Will let you know how I get on!

Sadly no luck with the blipping and key action - still won't go. Thinking about the crank sensor - surely I'd still hear the pump run if this was at fault?

get a timing light gun to see if you have spark, then check the fuel pump wiring and relays.

I've had to replace coilpacks on my Dad's one, might be worth checking to see if any moisture has got in there and killed them.

Manual s types of this era only immobalise the fuel and ignition Sometimes if the battery is left flat for ages the system can lock out.Try disconnecting both battery leads from battery and touching together for a few seconds.Reconnect battery and try again

May or may not be of any use but with the P38 Range Rover, you needed to turn the key in the door lock a specific number of times in both the lock/unlock directions before it would love you again. First time it happened to be, after a battery change, contacted LR and they gave me the vehicle specific code. After that, whever the battery came out I used a piece of wire with croc clips to maintain continuity.
