Diesel chaps, help me out please. I need help as i pretty much know the square root of F*** all about diesels. I bought a 325TDS in January and within 24 hours of ownership the immobilser went belly up on me. I called an auto electrician out to remove it alltogether. First day he managed to get all the dash lights coming back on again but that was all. Second day he managed to get the car to crank and fire for 1 second. He has not returned since. I'm left with a large red garden ornament that will fire for a second at a time and that is all. I don't know anything about diesels to be fair so cant make my mind up on what is shutting off the fuel or electric after a second of running. I've chucked easy start down its throat and is does the same thing, runs for a second only. I guess this means its not fuel related? I honestly don't think he has a clue what to do next, hence why he hasnt returned. I'm going to have to get someone else on the job now on a half finished immobilser removal which will probably end up costing more than if they had started the job. Luckily i havent paid a penny so far to the first sparkie and don't think I'm going to see him to pay for a completed job. Can anyone voice an opinion as to what they think the issue might be and i can pass that on to the new sparkie to hopefully speed the job up a little. Thnaks in advance Ross

Did the guy actually remove the immobiliser and cut the wiring to get to this point. As generally the fault with this system is the key and not the immobiliser itself.imoa i would reinstall to standard and trouble shoot the fault 99% it will be the key. Then get a good locksmith to programme the key.

Ok, late reply but another broken car took priority Anyway. I've got no further with this one. Is the EWS the ring around the ignition barrel? I maybe should have said from the start that the immobiliser that I needed removing was an aftermarket one with a 'one touch' fob. It is however jacked straight into a BMW immobilser unit under the passenger side carpet at the bulkhead. It may even be a genuine BMW immobiliser but I'm not sure. The fella I got the car from said he had it fitted when the car was 6 months old. However I have no contact details for him now. Here's a vid I made of the car starting. As said before it will still cut out like this even with easy start sprayed into the inlet. I can't see it being a fuel issue just ignition but which bit I don't have a clue. Thanks. Ross

It seems to me that as soon as you release the key from the crank position the engine stalls, is it possible the fuel pump/ fuel solenoid is only receiving power when in the crank position and then as soon as it starts and you return it to ign position it loses power to that circuit.
Will the engine run if you bypass the fuel relay , giving perm supply to the pump?

I had Sh-t loads of trouble with starting on my 3.0d, Changed the crank sensor, no change, eventually I changed the cam sensor which cured the problem, Not sure if you have OBD, worth checking??

Even if I keep the key in the cranking position it will only fire for that long and then just continue to crank without firing.

If you have a code reader, do a live data scan and check for an RPM signal, if ther is one the CPS is working, then check for synchronization yes = cam sensor OK no means one or tother is no longer working or they are out of faze ?(worn chain tensioner or belt) , IIRC the cam sensor is only used for starting to tell the ECU which cylinder is due to fire next. There is no ignition on a diesel any diesel should run with sniff up it's hooter, i just ran a TDCi fiesta for 20 mins on brake cleaner to try and clear an air lock in the H/P pump.

I had a similar problem with a 520i petrol and it was a blown cruise control fuse. Check all that stuff first. Also a photo of the fob would help regarding alarm fault finding issues. Usually it's only starter, fuel and ignition they cut or a combo of the two. Being derv it's obv going to be starter and fuel. There's a website you can get all the info for wiring diagrams etc but its name escapes me right now. I used it to sort a "wiring" issue on my 328/325 conversion which was just me connecting a main live to earth!!!!
I can talk you through the wiring diagrams if your not sure of the system, its common German design where it's all destinations and terminations, really easy once you grasp the concept but hard if your used to a Haynes type system.
