So to add to the running issues, my car is now overheating!
The top rad hose is hot, bottom one is cold, which led me to think the rad was blocked. I removed it this afternoon, and flushed it through (in the bath! ), not as much dirty water came out to be honest, less than I expected anyway.
Which then led me to think waterpump. But was told it could be thermostat (initially didn't know it was in the same housing).
But after swapping the stat out for a genuine one, turns out, the thermostat doesn't seem to be the problem. Put the new one in, and it didn't stop it from overheating. So stuck the old one in some boiling water, and it opened fully, so it works! In fact, the old one opened sooner than the new one.
the pipes going to and from the oil cooler are boiling hot, as is the top hose.
as well as the top hose being hot, the top half of the radiator is warm, but bottom half cold. With the corner with the fan switch being cold (therefore fan not kicking it).
Is there only one route for the water to flow through the radiator?
Or is it a duff water pump?
any help?
