well, heres the story, used to own this. then a tractor did this to it, in the mean time I had bought a Volvo 940 turbo for the engine to go in the laurel, but it didn't fit so it became a mobile storage unit on the drive, but it had sown the seeds of Volvo love in my mind, my boys getting to the age were we can go camping and stuff. so once I got done over by the organised crime syndicate that call them selves "insurance companies" I was left with a short fall on my next car, the 940 was ok but had done galactic mileage, so the hunt was on for a nice lower mileage Volvo estate, firstly after a 940 sports edition on the bay but the vender was very unhelpfull so that was passed up, then saw a very nice 740 turbo on the Volvo owners forum wich was a "practical classics" staff car, but due to the mafia under paying then I couldn't afford that. then a chance view on auto trader led to this beauty. Volvo 740 turbo intercooler, genuine 85,000 miles with all mots to back it up. in one particular year it only did 900 miles. one London owner all its life, a mrs wong, who only used it to go to the cash and carry to get rice. lovely tan leather. the all important high pressure turbo lump with little monster added. picked it up from Battersea, the brakes were dragging for a bit but put it down to lack of use as they soon free`d of and all was good. go`s like a train and is pretty damn quick, enough to shock a few modern cars on the motorway on the drive home. its absolutely spotless, underneath is like it left the showroom. plans are, boost controller to get some more tail out action going on. plus a slight drop would be nice. what you think. thanks for looking.

Yummy, love the leather and that all important egg crate grill. This 740 must be when they tried the 760 front end on a 740 which later became the 940 as it looks almost identical to mine. Saw a few post on VOC, I thought you brought that 'F' plate minter. Turbo brick power!

Almost correct. The 740 did not have the 760 front end, it is just the lights, grille and maybe bumpers that are similar. The bonnet on the 88-> 760 are an aluminium one that extends all the way to the windshield while the 740 and 940 models have a shorter steel bonnet with a scuttle panel (?) in between, so the wings and bonnet are different... The 1990 (91-92 in some markets?) 740 Turbo front end are identical to the 940 one, while the non-turbo 740 1990-92 had their own lights and bumpers (butt ugly model) with plastic pieces between the headlamps and grille. The fun part is that the 1990 non-turbo 740 has its own bonnet and grille while the 91-92 are using the 940/1990 740 turbo units.

And here's a late 740 with its own front end The back of that car had 940 esque rear lights: Didn't the 740 turbo also come with independant rear suspension complete with an LSD or am I thinking of the uber rare 740 16v? A great buy I must say. Found the pair of ours great fun for the job they did (one was a '91 2.0 EFi SE as above, and the other was an '89 2.3i GLE Auto estate which went to DollyWobbler of this parish . They are not as terrible on the handling front as you think IMO, but they really do need something to counteract all of that roll! Something which lows and possibly better shocks and thicker ARBs will counteract nicely .

Wrong, the Saab engine has nothing in common with the Volvo engine - except that (IIRC) both of them was named "B234". AFAIK, there was no 16V 2,3 turbo Volvo engines. The models sold in Scandinavia never got the multilink rear suspension on the 740 models, just 760 (except estate) 1988-> and 960 (except 1991-94 estate) models. However, I think I read in some old car magazine that the Italian market 740T 16V had the multilink suspension. All 7/900 models from 1988 on has the brackets for the multilink, the bodies aren't different between live axle and multilink cars. The taillamps that replaced the old "lego style" ( ;D ) units came in 1990 too, and were also available in a wider model fitted on the 760 model.

....keep your eye out for a 740 GLE as they have a 16 valve head... In the UK the 16v head can be found on the 740GLT and some versions of the 940GLE, 1989-91 only IIRC. There was a 16v 2.3 turbo Volvo engine but its not very common. Pretty sure there wasn't, 2.0 16v turbo, yes, 2.3 no.

have been after some "alternative" wheels for my bus since I got it. but due to the curse word pcd the choice isn't great. bar a couple of exceptions I'm not a fan of any factory wheel. and I'm afraid I might be on my own in saying that galaxies don't do it for me. started to get the right hump with what was available so started looking at what was possible with adapters. being an ex jdm fanatic I knew the wheel that I always wanted on my skylines but just couldn't get at the time. so after seeing these on ebay and them being very local. they didn't sell so I got hold of the seller and arranged to see them, bid low and got them for an absolute steal. I have literally just offered them up in these pics, have adapters on the way from the states, and I will have to jiggle tyres abit but I think they are ding dong. "super advans tri spoke splits" 9 1/2 rears and 8 1/2 fronts. I will take them apart and mirror polish the lips and get the centres painted. just don't know what colour to go for yet. poss body colour, poss nice bronze. go on give me your worst.

Seriously.... cool....wheels! one vote for bronze (to match the interior) didn't think of that, though calling the interior as "bronze" is a little generous. bay sh*t brown is more fitting. lol.

Those wheels look AMAZING! Seriously wasn't expecting to see those on an old turbo brick! Another vote here for a bronze sort of colour for the centres.
