Hi folks! My dolomite has come with a 70s aftermarket cruise control unit. Pictures: What i need to pick your brains on, is how you think it operates? It runs in series with the throttle cable, i initially thought it had a pull cable to lock it on but from looking closer ive discovered its got a loose connector with nothing attached to it, so it appears to be electronic. There doesnt appear to be a switch for it, so i think someones removed it so it cant be used in the past, anyone any ideas how youd get this thing working again? Itd be pretty cool to get it working, thats for sure. Cheers for your time.

I'm not sure this one was for trucks, cos theres no second battery, but it appears I'm missing a control unit! Ideas on that front? or am i screwed..

Wow, I've always wanted to see a car with one of these set-ups fitted!
They were advertised heavily in 70's car mag's as the thing to have in order to aid driver comfort and fuel consumption etc...
It's a shame the control unit isn't in place as that's what you need to get things working! I'm sure somebody on here will be able to help surely?!

Ive got a sort-of-dangerous 1970's cruise control on my firenza... I fitted a weber dgas, with the choke flaps removed but retained the choke cable - end result is I can get about half throttle just by pulling out the choke lever without any of the "choke" action - will happily cruise with no pedal input - just pray you don't have to brake!

end result is I can get about half throttle just by pulling out the choke lever I've got an old V-twin Yamaha bike that does that. I use it when I'm commuting, crunch it up and sown the gears to control* the speed. *it's not really under control, it idles so roughly the speed varies massively.

Just read the Cal Custom link, yup I've seen these before. Biggest weakness in the system is a vacuum leak that or magnets falling off the driveshaft.
As a side not my '60 Lincoln has FACTORY cruise control. It's a neat setup, totally mechanical with an electric motor for throttle control. It is a "Speedostat" made by the Perfect Circle corp, basically the first generation cruise control units ever sold.
