Apologies for cryptic title, but all will become clear. The post below the dotted line is a thread I started on 7th Feb 2007. I'm writing this edit now, on 7th Feb 2017, exactly ten years later. I thought it'd be fun to bump it as a sorta "time capsule" kinda thing, so we can see how many people posted accurate predictions of their future motoring life, and if any wacky ideas came true etc. Did you get what you wanted? Do you still have the same car from ten years ago? Were you too young to use a computer ten years ago? (depressing thought, I know!) I still have my capri so I was partly right, but I do have a boring modern daily too - 2007 me is probably very disappointed in me! With any luck, 2027 me will have won the lottery, and I'll have a 68 mustang and a Ferrari F40. Failing that, with any luck, I'll STILL have my capri, and something else a bit cooler. Car technology is progressing so quick it's a bit harder to predict what I'll have for a daily car ten years down the line, but realistically, it's probably something they're making now rather than an electric car. ---------------------------- As title ^ - define future how you choose, be it 5 years or 50. do people still see themselves driving the same car they have now? or something that will be retro in the future but is a new or current car atm? or just the first hovercar to be released onto the market? Just something I've wondered about, as in a while ours are gonna be the equivalent of the oldies* doing the london to brighton run, and i can't quite picture myself with a handlebar moustache, pipe, flat cap and driving goggles, but yet I don't see myself being capri-less or driving a modern thing, at least not one retro-ified, such as possibly a newer escort or vectra type thing, matt blacked with wide black steels and ratty or something. *cars that is, I wouldn't be so un-pc

Big plans for all the cars I have at the mo once I qualify and earn some proper money. Will probably get a C6 as a respectable, cheap daily whilst I'm a junior.

I always liked cars from the late 50s through early 70s. No reason to suspect that will change. I rmember back in like 1988 talking to a mate and us saying that by the year 2000 most of those 60s cars would be 40 years old or near that and by then they would probably be too old to daily drive. Hahahaha! Still driving them now. Will still be doing so in 5, 10, 20 years. Maybe not the exact same cars I have now but similar atuff.
I will proably start adding some newer cars I like but are too modern just now (read too expensive) such as Chrysler 300C, MG ZT260, etc as daily drivers as the real classics get older. But then theres people still driving cars from the 40s and 30s and driving them like hell in some cases...

I see my self driving my my stock piled projects, namely the MR2 done up, and the V8 sierra, also caged up but capable of a road trip. Advance further I want a trans am project. and something rock steady as a daily work truck! modded Disco xantia/c6 etc, or maybe even a sierra!
And project dabblings with a rock and roll 50's 60's project car

However, i worry days are numbered so i'll try keep fit and fresh on my bike (when I'm not lazy or freezin me nuts off!)

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Al has a point, there will be pickings of newer cars in decade+, so yeah, BMWs etc and stuff out of reach may become a realistic option so cheap it'd be rude not to. i try not to think about the distant future anymore...

Slightly further ahead I can see myself driving similar cars to now, but converted to electric/hybrid/fuel cell/whatever.
Half looked into battery conversion for a Midget shell I had lying about the place... still tempted now, especially with Li-ion cells becoming more realistic.

Jeez, I have no idea what I'll be driving next week! Both my Sierras will get restored / modified as appropriate so they will be future "daily drivers" in the long term unless things radically change. Next week I may have a 2nd Generation Civic, or an Accord if Mrs JS relents (PM coming very soon SL!), maybe a Volvo 850 2.0 10V estate or a T5 saloon (both on the "test drive at the weekend" list). As always - "Anything could happen in the next half hour"!!

10 years ago... I owned 1974 Mk3 Cortina 2.0 Auto (mild retro modified thing) 1974 Mk3 Cortina 2.0 manual (mild mods, lotus wheels, rally tyres, that sort of thing) 1977 Ford Capri Mk2 1970 Vauxhall Ventora 1967 Vauxhall Victor 2000 with a 2300 conversion + overdrive 1968 Vauxhall Victor getting a V8 conversion 1968 Vauxhall Victor 1600 with a weber and 4 speed box 1971 Vauxhall Victor estate probably a few other Vauxhall Victors too... oh, and they were all owned at the same time... The profile changes little really. Just sold the last Vauxhall, still got the Capri, want another Mk3 Cortina. In ten years time what will it be?
