if an ignition amplifier module absorbs too much heat, will it cut out and make the engine not start till when it has cooled down?driving along the road or sat idling the car cuts out after everything warms up in 10 minutes ! as I have these symptoms car wont start until it is cool and will cut out when it gets warm!
hope I have found the answer after changing the fuel pump lol!

My dads consul suffered a similar problem... the coil is mounted to the block and obviously as the block gets hot, the heat radiates through to the coil. Once hot, she'd either cough every so often, cut out or run as normal until it was turned off/stalled - then wouldn't start until it was cool... Now someone told me it could be the regulator box (think the consul is a two coil one) but never took it any further - just moved the coil

Could be the rotor arm, especially if it's a modern reporduction item with a big rivet holding the brass plate on.

Certainly possible. Years ago I had a Mk3 Escort that used to do exactly that and the problem was the ignition module. Instead of random parts swapping have you tried to diagnose the problem properly? eg, when it stops have you checked to see if there is still a spark?

well been diagnosed by my dad and fully rectified guess what it was...
Electronic distributor - luckily had a spare put it on didnt even re time it yet perfect runs like it should (ish) needs timing but still it works as it should just needs timing and a service , the distributor was running hotter than the engine itself!
thanks again for your help and advice thank god its done !

Amp won't 'switch' if it gets hot with Bosch items.
