Maybe a warning as to just how fast things can change.
We all have kids, pets, valuables in our cars every day.
Just shows how fast things can go very wrong.

I once had a Range Rover go up, and the speed fire spreads and end smoke given off is amazingly scary.

In future, when i can afford it, all wiring will be a pro job because i don't want this happening!
Seen it happen to a showstopper mini once, about 12k down the pan because of an electrical fire.

Most of the time one of those hand held fire extinguishers will do jack curse word. Worth carrying still to try and put it out but it usually wont work.

What is it that seems to make VW vans etc particularly prone to catching fire? Is it just that you are further away from the hot bits so by the time you know you have a problem it is too late? They seem particularly difficult to extinguish too.

What is it that seems to make VW vans etc particularly prone to catching fire? One of the comments on the vid i put up seems to suggest that the fuel filter leaks onto a hot carb, thus starting the fire.

They seem particularly difficult to extinguish too. Original VW engine cases were mans out of magnesium, so the actual engine itself is flammable! Once the case catches fire not even the fire brigade can put them out.

How lucky we are that there is always some thoughtful passer by ready with their phone to record someone else's misfortune - and in the case of the second one above to record the poor guy trying to get his stuff out of his blazing van. Only a few minutes into the scene does he think to call the police. Great help.
When the helicopter came down in fog in London a few weeks ago there were apparently people running towards the scene, not to to try to assist, but to film the aftermath and get in the way of the rescue services.

Got a Camper? Not got an extinguisher? Then get one.
I had a SAAB 95 (That's a 95, not a 9-5) that caught fire...it's pretty scary stuff.

Whilst we're on the subject of fires, remember if a underbonnet fire starts don't lift the bonnet. Pop it open on the catch and fire the extinguisher in through the gap. Same with a fire in the boot, keep it as closed as possible.
