Whats my choices when it comes to compact 3 cylinder motors? I know alot of J-tin feature such lumps but don't know which are best! Must be twincam and pref turboed aswell please!  |

^^^^ Concur, bulletproof and able to have many many boosts crammed into them with stock internals! As far as displacement goes they're one of the bigger ones as well I think, the Kei cars all have 660cc or less triples.

You want one of these.   67bhp of raw 3-cylinder, SOHC, naturally aspirated powah and an itsy bitsy carb'. One of the best engine noises ever too (to my strange ears). Er yes... if you want DOHC and turbo you're going to have to go the Daihatsu way. |

I drove a Charade GTTi about 10 years ago, it was an ex-Max Power feature car, with a Remus exhaust. The damn thing sounded like a Ferrari on full chat. Shame it was scabbier than a scabby thing!

Right GTti engine is what you want. The engine is a 12 valve three cylinder with forged pistons, forged rods, and a forged crank. Factory red line is at 7800rpm, with 99bhp. The engine was orginally designed as a base unit for daihatsu's group B attempt, so the head dosent need any work really as it already flows a huge amount. The turbo supplied is very small though and highly stressed, I would go for a metro turbo T3 unit for maximum performance. I'm going to build one to hill climb and have already got a perfect turbo in the shape of a GT22 turbo, it will supply 25psi in a pretty good efficiency.  This mira has a charde GTTi engine -  Its running stock internals and 180bhp   The stock internal have been taken to 220bhp in NZ and over 200 in the UK. Daihatsu Racing Services on the other hand made over 300bhp, not too sure on the spec but I think that says it all really!! J |

Or use a bike engine... my triumph has an 885cc 12v dohc lump and makes just shy of 100bhp naturally aspirated..bulletproof motors too...later ones went to injection.
Are you planning on buying something with a triple in?

very true, all the triumph lumps are triples, 600 900 and a 2.3!!!!! The 2.3 also has a compression ratio of 8:1, o ripe for turbocharging J |

In my hazy recollection, in one of the first (if not THE first) copies of MiniWorld back in '91 there was a guy who'd fitted a 3-cyl Daihatsu turbodiesel into a Mini Thirty. Dunno if anyone here has a collection they could look through???

Or, as J suggested, use the 2.3 and turbo powaaahhhh.
