Hi
A friend wants to upgrade the stereo in his mk6 fiesta. It's got a rds4500 stereo but it looks like you have to remove the dash to get it out as the dash goes across it in two places. Is there a easy way of doing this ?

No lol.
This is all from memory. Drop the glovebox down, 2 screws on the right hand side. Take the panel off that goes under the steering wheel (iirc there's about 7 screws dotted all over the place), once removed theres a couple of screws for the console under there. Lever the little rectangle block of switches out thats next to the radio, remove screws in there. Look underneath the heater controls, couple of screws there.
You should now be able to carefully pull the dash center forward off of the pop clips. Right now get a towel or something and lay it over the dash behind the console as the pop clips make some right gouges if you don't. You'll have about an inch of space to get your hand in and start unplugging wiring connectors, iirc there's 2 or 3 (right at the bottom for heater controls and fag lighter are hardest). Then you need to disconnect the heater controls. The easiest way to do this if you're fitting an aftermarket stereo is to chop the bars out that go across the stereo so you can get your hand and some pliers in to remove the centre control cable.
With that done you'll be able to remove the stereo. You then need to buy a fascia adapter and wiring adapter. Chop the 2 bars out of the dashboard, then file the stubs back, smooth em with emery and give em a quick polish and they'll become pretty much invisible.
Reverse the above process for putting it back together, and if you want to save some money stick a swear jar next to you on the seat. It'll be full by the time you're done, curse word of a job.
