Nope as that is all you have on the road, and would a tyre fitter put it on a rim.

It's "probably" safe enough if the actual bead itself is undamaged - it just looks like it's lost the flap that provides the seal. However, since it's lost the flap, you'll have trouble getting it to seal and stay inflated.
Unless it's a really awkward size, if money is an issue you'd be better off spending £25 on a part worn than pumping a tenner into getting this fitted and having it leak air all the time.

I fitted some tyres with a much smaller section missing, around 10mm, and they would constantly leak so had to get new tyres.
Wouldn't even other trying to be honest

If the bead is undamaged then its not going to come off, it might go flat though - however i wouldn't have thought it would go without warning, more likely to consistantly loose pressure, you may need to run it with a tube - remember those?

In my younger days I ran much worse than this on the rear of dirt bikes, I never had one come off the rim
Modified as i reflected on that nuns and kittens would not have died had it don't so, if you aren't sure/happy don't run it.

I had a quick count of the replies and got ... 3 think it's a bad idea (or words to that effect)  3 think it will go on and stay on but you'll have lots of problems with it going flat In "RR = positive vibes" mode, I'd say nothing is impossible  Depends what it's going on - if it's a twin-turbo track monster I woudn't risk it ... If it's a normal car and you drive sensibly (  ) I'd put it on and see what happened. I've been through something similar recently swapping old winter tyres onto spare rims for underpowered town cars. Some worked fine - some went flat when they wanted (remove them - clean rim & tyre - refit - repeat until it's ok) Most ended up fine - there was only one that I gave up on Top tip - make friends with one of the fitters in your local independent tyreshop, you often get a good price if you have cash on a Friday afternoon when they're quiet  |

As far as I can see the main steel bead is not exposded, no cords are protruding, and it appears to only be a "flesh wound" of the outermost (or is that inner most?) rubber. Which provides no structual integrity, and doesn't scream deadly tyre to me.
I would be happy ot use that provided that it was done due to poor fitting or such, and not the rim having gone sideways into a curb. Which could trap, twist or fracture the cords within it.
Sealing wise, make sure the seating bead of both tyr and rim is spotless . Belt and braces would be a few inches of bead sealer in the relevant area as well, though I normally only use this as last resort, as it's a curse word to get off later on.

I think it'll be fine as it's not on the sealing part. You can never be sure with tyres, and personally I'd be weary to put it on or at least go over 50 with it on, you'll feel safer with a different tyre.  |

If you had an accident you would be screwed if plod or an insurance assessor noticed it. Tyres are one of the most safety critical parts, so what's the point of risking your life and that of others? - Do you really not have 40 quid for a part worn?
