Up for sale is our Pug 405.
Firstly I must say I tend to describe cars harshly, I'd prefer people to arrive and be pleasantly surprised than unpleasantly.
We haven't had this long, (couple of months), basically I knew we had a couple of long trips to make and it made more sense to buy this and resell it than either go in a very thirsty car that wouldn't have carried all the car bits or hiring a van. That said if we get stuck with it I won't be too upset as I like the car it does everything we ask of it.
In the meantime it's taken me 25 miles a day back and forth to work without a problem, and other than sorting out the issues I bought it with (and without any disrespect to the former owner who was totally honest about them!) it's cost sweet fa to run. 60MPG is perfectly achievable and in general thrashing around I can't get it below 40.
It does have a Bosch pump, personally I don't like the idea of running on veg oil but apparently this is the pump to do it on if you do, then it will be very cheap to run indeed.
When I bought the car it needed a tyre, the front wing was a cheap pattern replacement in matt black, there was a piece of gaffer tape covering a bad rust bleb on the roof, side repeater was broken, no radio and a fair few other problems.
These are now sorted, I've bought an original wing which fits better, painted it sort of to match, to be honest the colour match isn't great but it doesn't stand out now at least which was my concern, fitted a new tyre so it's back on it's set of Mi16 15" alloys, had a good check over of the engine and it's all fine under there, clutch and gearbox also ok.
Suspension all spot on.
Brakes, being critical while the handbrake works it comes up a long way and while the brakes work fine there is a bit too much pedal travel for my liking, it's perfectly safe and perfectly driveable hence why I haven't done anything, but I suspect either the rear brakes (drum) need adjusting or new shoes, to be honest though I reckon you could get through to the next mot without touching it.
Tyres all good, wheels all straight.
Most panels have some sort of small ding on them, but it's not meant to be a perfect car it's a cheap reliable diesel. Front bumper a bit loose at one corner, being critical here and it's not an issue but if I was holding on to the car I'd probably address it at some point but it's certainly not urgent.
All lights and electrics fine, I replaced both front indicators as both were cracked, I also replaced the drivers side repeater as it was totally broken.
When I got the car there was no tool kit to change the wheel so I bought a new peugeot one that fits inside the spare wheel including all the tools needed and a new jack, I also mended the tyre holding rack which was seized up and damaged.
Replaced the antifreeze as it was a bit tired looking.
Interior is tidy enough, drivers seat has some wear but it's all ok to be honest, unbelieveably comfy to drive, I love driving this car. I've only just realised looking at the pictures that when I took them today I was covered in red paint dust from bare metalling my 944, so I apologise for the dirty interior, it's actually pretty clean, the mats aren't shown in the pics as they are dirty old rubber ones but they do keep the carpets clean!
All in all the car is what it is, it's not a pretty show car, it's a rough old diesel, it could easily be tidied up but to be honest you wouldn't, it's not actually bad to look at by any means, I don't feel ashamed to drive it, it's a pleasant car to go for a drive in and fantastic at lugging loads around.
So the good points are pretty self explanatory, economy being the biggest!
Bad points? Well that loose front bumper corner I suppose, only one key and the central locking button is missing and the remote central locking doesn't work but it does work off the key, the drivers side rear door could do with a new central locking motor, it was disconnected when we got the car but I reconnected it and it works sometimes but it's getting sluggish and needs changing really, it's not the end of the world though to operate the door pin yourself! Cd player fitted (Genuine Peugeot) but for some reason not playing CDs, I've sorted the wiring out which was a mess so either open up the cd and I suspect it's just the rubber band thats come off or chuck another cd in there. I think that's about it, it looks like quite a list but that's an honest list instead of the usual lets hope none of it gets spotted when someone comes to collect it.
Mot runs out in about 8 months the tax runs out at the end of this month.
I'll retax it at cost for the buyer.
I've priced the car at what I paid for it plus what I've spent on it, I'll throw in a can of paint in allegedly the same colour and I have a haynes somewhere in a box if I find it it's yours.
£525 ONO.
