hello I'm picking up a mx5 1993 1.6 soon and i don't know if it will have a lsd ... its a import as far as I'm aware some came with open some with lsd.... i wanted it mainly for sideways fun and alot of the lsd are worn so i would like to lock it , sure you can weld a open diff but can u weld the lsd on the 1.6 mx5 ? i believe there was two diffrent types of lsd that came on them just to make things more complicated please help ! thank you

Can't see why not. But as aan MX5 LSD will be worth more money than an open one, why not swap it over and make some cash back? You can even weld the open one on the bench rather than underneath the car with weld going in your ear/down your neck. ;D

With early NA model Mx5's 1990-93 some come with open and others have Viscous LSD's. The inner carrier on the LSD is sealed and is fill of a special type of oil-silicon type I think. Once these are shagged you fit a new one or throw away. jrevillug is right, swap it for an open and make some beer money. Some of the the later 1800 MX's come with a torsen diff which is most favorable if you can get them. These can fit the early cars but need some mods with axle flanges and mountings.
