Got a merc that was cat c and the guys run out of money so it hasn't had it's vic test done. Wanted to know if it's a lot of hassle or as simple as an Mot. All work has been completed to bring the car up to scratch, how do you go about booking one and what kind of costs are involved. Also car still has MOT until mid this year, is that now void or still valid?

basically the vic test is just to check the identity, nothing else.

vehicle identity check is literally that. checking the identity to make sure there's nothing suspicious going on. they don't check the quality of repair work as far as I know, purely the VIN numbers, chassis numbers etc to make sure it is what it says it is.
and as far as I know you'll have to have it MOTd again. pretty sure the MOT is void when its written off.

Mot is void so re MOT then take to vic test. The VIC test is nothing to worry about unless your hiding something. Test is about £40 last time i did one, takes about 20 mins to do, simples.

I have taken cat c cars for vic tests. You have to MOT them 1st if you're going to drive it there. Quote "a car can only travel on the road (read under its own power on the road) without an MOT to and from a pre arranged MOT test". It'll need insurance on as well if you're driving it there. I sometimes use the short term stuff. It works out cheaper that a transporter at times It takes minutes in some cases. I my opinion: I believe they are only looking for rung/cloned/stolen cars. I took a Plum coloured 2006 1.4 16v automatic 5 door Corsa and was there 5 mins, there can't be many other cars matching that.... Take a silver mid spec BMW, Merc, Ford and you'll be there a bit longer. You arrange it online to start with via the GOV/VOSA site and your chosen centre will then contact you. It is very easy. don't be put off
