right this is a strange one too me. currently looking at a 95 scorpio all seems well with the car. until it gets warm then gradually it has a wobble through the steering that gets rapidly worse until its hard too hold the wheel. All four wheels have been balanced. it does it when accelerating, braking and rolling all gears and neutral. only does it between 40 and 55 then it clears above 60. Very lost as to what it could be.

Worn track rod ends? Front wheel bearing? Loose hub nut?

What are the front wheel bearings like? is one of them heating up and binding perhaps? Or maybe a warped front disk and sticky caliper.

Were the wheels balanced while on the vehicle? We used to have a Sierra with exactly the same symptoms, the only cure was having them balanced on the car....

Possibly a mishaped tyre affected by temp?

It's the warm bit that's confusing? i doubt it's the prop if it's coming through the steering wheel (or was that taking thepiss? )

Very much so, no sign of it at all until its been driven 5-10 miles. Bit more testing and the power steering is very stiff even with the wheels raised so trying a new rack... Here's hoping.

I had an otherwise perfect Volvo 940 Estate that had a very similar problem - scared the curse word out of me the first time it did it. You're right - okay when cold but evident when warmed up, due probably to thinning of PAS fluid when warm? Anyway replaced the rack and cured the problem. I think my theory at the time was that there was wear in the section of the rack that engaged with the pinion from the column when in the straight ahead position. Hence nothing evident when you jack the car up and check the rack for play in the usual fashion.
