I recently changed some coolant pipes and did some major flushing on my little xr2i and the thermostat has also been changed.
At the moment with the cold weather it takes about 15 minutes to get up to temperature, is this normal ?
It also has a rumbling from the rear but there's no play in the bearings anyone have any ideas ?
As usual thank you for any help in advance.

Maybe you have some air trapped in there? Would explain why it'd take a while to warm up and the possible rumbling?

15 minutes isn't bad for a cvh to warm up Your rumble is probably rear tyres out of shape Stick two different wheels on and see what happens If it remains the bearings may be at fault, on these they do not need play in them to rumble

Did you put a cheap thermostat in? Or a good one (Calorstat/Motorad/Whaler branded)? IME there's a world of difference.

Do you mean rumbling from the back of the car as in wheel bearing noise or a rumble from the back of the engine?
If ive guessed correctly and your talking about the rear wheels jack the back of the car off the ground and spin the wheel by hand if the bearing is rumbling you should be able to hear it.

The rumbling is from the rear of the car there's no play in the bearings or untoward noise. Hamps I think you may be onto something it had sat for a long time before I got her

swap tyres , but sounds like a dry bearing , rumbling bearings don't often have play,.

Would explain why it'd take a while to warm up and the possible rumbling? really? airlocks in the engine at the front may cause rumbling at the rear Could well be the bearing had play so somone nipped it up and now it's rumbling? they usually only rumble with a load on them hense you jack it up and there's no noise ?

When it's jacked up no play or noise I checked all four in case I was going mad, it did spend years standing only covering 100 miles a year for a while , most of the issues I have had seem to be lack of use issues.

Turns out the original tyre s were knackered they had tread but age and sitting in one place had made them square

Swap the pipes into the heater matrix over if you have had them off, its a common thing to get them mixed up and then the heaters take ages to get warm.

Did you put a cheap thermostat in? Or a good one (Calorstat/Motorad/Whaler branded)? IME there's a world of difference. Damn straight there! I fitted a cheapo Thermostat into the Spitfire. God that took ages to warm up and it rarely hit the middle! The First Line item in the Porsche did strange things as well in comparison the genuine Behr item I later fitted. The Stag is warm within around 10 minutes tops with warm air coming out of the heaters within a few minutes . That was a Calorstat thermostat. IME having the right gasket makes a difference too (aids sealing the thermostat 'hot' side and cool side, again aiding warm up times). Regarding the bearing if they are like a MKIV Escort rear bearing it is quite easy to overtorque them (especially if you get an overzealous MOT tester) and get good rumblings from the rear. Old tyres can also cause it (as it seems to have done in your case).
