Anyone here toyed with accuspark on a herald engine?
Cant get the curse word to run... Keep getting a backfire out of the exhaust but no actual firing...
Its bens old standard 10. Ive tried guessing the static timing as the you cant static time it like a points system.
Any hints / tips... Or should i just take it out and start again (reset it all)
Help appriciated.
Oh and also I'm assuming cylinder 1 is nearest the radiator?

I've put Accuspark on my Vitesse 6 engine in the Bond. I found that with my dizzy, the Accuspark unit sat further around than the old points, and this threw out the timing quite dramatically. This is on a Delco dizzy, I'm assuming yours is a Lucas one so it may not have the same issue. If I recall, my coil was giving a pretty feeble spark too, so that got replaced (not saying that's your problem, but if your putting Accuspark on it makes sense to have a decent coil on there!) I used a timing light and set it that way. It's a really great improvement once it's set up!

Ok cheers, Think ill have to advance it and see what happens... The thought of a dull spark did cross my mind too....
Forgot to say, Ben bought the whole accuspark dizzy for it, So its a preassembled unit, The coil is new too , but not sure if its ballast or not. Although its not supposed to be according to accuspark.
I got it running, but it runs like its running out of fuel, And no matter what adjustment it make to the timing it just gets slower....
Going to try some neew plugs tommorow as the fitted ones are sooted up and i think that may be causing some firing issues.. And the valve clearances are making it sound like a cvh...

In your case I would firstly set the tappet clearances. This will help the engine run smoother.
I would then borrow a timing light and get the distributor timing via the strobe. Like BenzBoy, I also had an issue with the new ignition setup (A Britpart unit in my case) causing the timing to be too far advanced!

Glad to see you're getting stuck straight in!
It's definitely a non ballast coil Have you checked there's actually fuel in it? It was mighty low when I parked it up. I think they're new plugs (can't quite remember!)- but sooted up from poor running. The old dizzy is a known quantity and is in the boot, though it would mean going back to points. It's got far less play in the shaft than I thought there would be so it's a fairly safe bet given a set of fresh points and condensor. It'd do no harm for you to take it off and refit so you know exactly where you are with it as you've no datum/known good setting at the moment.
