Right this is my Mahindra which has a 2.1 Peugeot diesel the same as 504, Granada etc. Genuine sub 70,000 miles.
It has been standing, in a garage, for 7 years prior to my buying. Seller said it was driven in there with MOT and simply parked up as he was working away from home.
No battery so the new, fully charged, item taken off my 2.0 HDi Peugeot van. Starter turned over very slowly and not fast enough to fire. If put in 1st gear and low range still not enough power to move it about on the flat. Starter removed, stripped down, no fault found so rebuilt but no improvement. Recon starter sourced and fitted today - still the same ie only turns over very slowly. Jump leads from battery to starter for both live and earth thus eliminating vehicle wiring. Same with live to energise solenoid.
I am flummoxed.
As far as I can see all electrical options tried - original & reconditioned starters, new battery and bypassed wiring so it must be something else. Tomorrow I intend removing glow plugs to see if that helps it turn over faster.
Any other suggestions ?
